My husband runs national. I prefer it. I like it when he is gone for weeks on end. Makes for a great marriage! LOL

well Roehl has givin me my "conditional employment" letter :biggrin_2559: so im almost there :biggrin_25519:

however i have found one downside :biggrin_2557: but it is one i can get over being that i am getting with one of the best companys in the industry...

the downside is they said i would probably get stuck with a midroof as oppsed to a condo unit with the raised roof. the only reason this was a concern for me is.. im 6' 7" tall... its cramped in a midroof freightshaker. but the condo unit i got room to spare, livin comfortably.

oh well. they said i can request it, and continue to request it til i get one. so ill cross my fingers when the time comes. i graduate schooling july 19th and orentation starts july 30th :biggrin_25520:

I have had both midroof and have a condo now, not that much different as far as room.

For the guy deciding on regional or not, i run midwest regional and like it. You get to know the roads and i live not far from gary so get home during the week some, maybe once every couple weeks, although i run dedicated which helps. Good luck.

Hey BucksandDucks; did I read that you are a trainer for Roehl? and did I read that you ran flatbed?
I am thinking of going with Roehl and have been considering flatbed but haven't read anything about Roehl's flatbed training. I know that the training is in Gary IN. but that all I can find out.

Is the Roehl flatbed division as good as the rest of the company appears to be?
Can you get miles/money? What kind of freight is typical?

I am new to all this and at 56 yrs. old don't want to make a mistake.

    Thanks in advance!

Mudpuppy I don't know the answer to that. Hubby came in as an experienced driver. Call Roehl. They are very helpful.

Yeah the mid roof trucks leave a lot to be desired.Roehls policy, singles get mid roofs and trainers and teams get condos.roehl is a pretty decent outfit to drive for in a lot of ways, but however like all truckin cos.they also have bad points.Good points are their pay, practical miles versus the household movers guide system most cos.use.Usually when you have a problem or need some assistance your DSR or fleet mgr. will al least listen to you and give you a straight forward answer.Being on the 7 on 7 off program they do keep me moving.I am usually pre planned before I unload and if not my next dispatch,is usually on the qual com within minutes after unloading.I have never had an issue with my pay.On the downside. The midroof trucks, condos would be a lot nicer, especially when you decide to take your wife,or other family member out for a trip. They could listen to you a little more when you request to run a certain part of the country. On every trip they send you a routing plan, which sometimes leaves a lot to be desired, but if you follow it you will come in very close to your pd.miles.Not to fond of their fueling program. But just like every other co.they do have downfalls.I would still have to rate them as one of the better cos.to drive for.:yes2557:

funny, I thought there pay was a bit low.

    What's with there fuel program?

When you get bak to the yard at the end of your 7 are you loaded and the next guy delivers or are you empty. I would think schedualing those 7/7's would be a nightmare

Medicine Man,I usually come back to the yard loaded but it is very seldom my teammates load.Usually when I start out for the week,I have to find an MT trl.then go somewhere to pick up my first load. However sometimes there is a load sitting in the yard for me.On the fueling program, they have twin 100 gal.tanks on the trucks,I have always liked twin 150s or at least twin 125s.On each trip they send you a routing plan and where to buy your fuel at and how much.Which fuel card to use ,etc.Sometimes you will be scedueled to buy maybe 30 gal.of fuel in one state, then in the next state, you are authorized to fill up.Just seems like a lot of extra stopping and use of your on duty hrs.i realize that the smaller tanks are so they can haul the heavier loads, such as 46000,pounders.however you can stiil haul heavy loads with bigger tanks,ya just gotta make sure there is not too much fuel in the tanks to scale out the load you are hauling. When I owned my own truck a few yrs.back I can only remember hauling one load, that was too heavy for me to scale out.It was a load of Sauercrout going from WI.to TN.When I scaled the load out I was 1/2 full on fuel and just under 80000 lbs.So naturally on that trip I kept the tanks at 1/2 or below so I would be legal. In other words with the larger tanks the driver or the co.or both have to use some common sense.Like I said in my previous post Roehl is a pretty decent outfit, but all trucking cos.have negative points. For all of you truckers just starting out or experienced drivers looking to change jobs, the very best of luck to you.And for all of you newbies,(inexperienced drivers) get ready to turn your whole life around, cause it aint like nothin ya ever done before.:biggrin_2551:
