Im fixing to start school and was wondering what to look for in a company etc. and what can benefit me. Unfortunately im 19 so OTR is out of the question, would it be bad to start for a local company hauling supplies for them local or hauling building materials around in my region of the state?
    Any and all advice appreciate.
    Thanks,
    Ben

Also theres a opening for a lumber, log and chips hauler would that be a better route if its in-state so I could work it? Id really love to get into specialized/oversized down the road, would it be better to hauls flats and work my way to small oversize and then get on into big overs and specialized?

Yes I'm sure any kind of trucking job would help your chances. Just make sure you keep your license clean and operate safely. As far as what to look for in a company: safe, well maintained vehicles, they run legal, benefits of course, vacation, etc., As long as you run legal and are a safe driver it should be beneficial to you in the future.

I plan on being as safe and clean as possible but accidents do happen thats why they're called accidents. Thanks for the pointers though, what if they fudge when asked if they do it by the books and then want me to cheat the coloring sheets?

more than likely when you do decide to go otr you will have to go back to school or do a refresher.

If you cheat you are taking a huge risk. If you have to stop for a D.O.T check and they catch you cheating, it could potentially mean jail time and you could lose your license. Not worth it. If they ask you to cheat you should not be working for them. Find a reputable company to work for. They are out there.

If you don't drive a semi for any extended period of time ..in your case at least a year, they won't hire you unless to take a refresher course. Most companies are like this.

Yeah, a month for school is about normal. But, my Friend, finding work as a 19 yr. old will be a little challenging. Good luck to ya'.
