Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
I got a job (maybe)

Thanks I have never run containers before so it should be interesting.

containers are not much different than van, just have to make sure certain pins are locked into place...
nhroadhog01 Thanks this. -
If possible, use zip ties to hole the pins in place.
There also should be plenty of work to go around due to the widening of the panama canal many large ships will be docking in Port Elizabeth NJ and transporting their freight insteab od taking it to California and sending it by rail.nhroadhog01 Thanks this. -

Good Luck on the job. I just went to the port for the first time recently and i am considering shredding my TWIC card. I have never seen such a disorganized chaotic mess in my life. Ain't no way I'd do that ######## day in and day out.

I pulled 53ft. containers out of chicago for a big outfit that I never thought I would drive for. Anyway you,ll become a expert trl. mechanic, get yourself wire plugs for all the different lights, get a large supply of lights, drivers will cut wire plugs for lights and pull lights out. Alot of chasis have china tires, expect alot of blow outs. Always carry a 20lb. maul to deal with the pins, tie wrap pins, get a air hose and air chuck to air tires up,under 80lbs. is considered flat by the dot. Use caution when opening trl. doors, due to load shifts, a 8 or 20lb.hammer is needed to close doors sometimes. Good Luck
nhroadhog01 Thanks this. -
You mean some of them container haulers lock the pins I have yet to see one I've seen them empty just bouncing on the frame completely up off the pins and loaded well what one driver told me if it roll over it wont take him with it
