I am not in favor of EOBR's. But thanks to big companies (lobbiest's) (excluding Swift for now), we will have them. One poster said they will strike if it happens, i'm with you on that. We have ECM's already. My Company downloads my data every 30 days.
You can log up to 800 miles a day easy. It just depends on how many mins (d-h) or hours you spend at shipper or reciver.
Point:
If EOBR's are mandated, we must have full compliance from shippers and recivers to really make them work. If we don't, then 9 out of 10 trucks will be sitting waiting on their "E" books. What kind of productivity would we have then? People would literally scream wondering where their groceries, gas and what have you are at?
How would this affect grocery stores? What would they say to lady who needs milk for her newborn? "Sorry Ma'am, but our delivery truck had to shut down 15 miles from here, casue he ran out of hours". What kind of response would you get from that?
This is where i say WE (drivers) need to come together and fight this. Maybe this fight will start with Swift leading the charge.. If so, i will say GO SWIFT!!
Contact your DC reps, and let them know that this is nothing but B.S.

I will stand every word of that post. Until we come together as one, instead of 2 million indivuials we will continue to be burned by the goverment. Would a strike do it? Maybe, but doubt it. I also say a shut down of 10 to 24 hours would make a point. Question is though, would it be a good or bad point? Better yet, get people in office that would listen to what we (drivers) say, and not just high falootin CEO of Jb Hunt.
I really think if we get behind a company or person to fight this, we can win!! All it will take is the drivers sticking together as ONE. Let's do this and show the feds we mean business.
Here is the number for the DC switchboard if you don't have it:

Remember without trucks, America stops.

The only thing that we will have to worry about if we strike is NAFTA. All the government would have to do to get freight moving if American drivers will not move it is to allow our neighbors in the south and north to freely operate in the US. That will be one tough trump card to overcome.
-
NAFTA does not allow them free run of the country. It only allows them to bring a load in and then take a load out. That's it, even if some Canadians have figured out how to bend the rules. It's not like we don't do that ourselves. If one quarter of the trucks simply refused to move for 24 hours, a point could be made. Now: how do we get 750,000 trucks to just sit for a day? Which day? Who will contact the media for news exposure? Will people even care?
A bit apathetic, I know, but those are the facts. Keep calling your representatives and senators. Right now, it's all the voice we have. Perhaps one million individual voices all speaking the same message will drown out five company lobbyists.Last edited: Oct 19, 2010

Once again I bring out my idea for a strike that can work, no one loses their trucks or homes and we get attenastion that we need and maybe WE THE DRIVER can get it through those morons on Capital Hill that it's not the mega Corperation owners or CEOs that always know whats good for trucking as they really have no friking idea any more. They just think with their big 6 and 7 figure pay checks and screw the only people that reall7y make the4 money they stuff their wallets with!
Are you ready to reread this thread of mine? it's not that long but it's a strike plan that WILL work for everyone of us! It's getting close to the time we act and stop reacting and get lead around by our noses! Print this out or at least the link and post it on your face Book and My Space pages or write it in marker on the back of your trailers! It's way to easy with this plan! But sitting around doing what drivers have been getting good at and whinning and not acting, then we might as well all sit down and write "Lead Me" or "Crybaby"on our foreheads and continue on with our pathetic lives as we will be nutered and won't be able to do a thing about it!

I work at a large grocery store and that actually happens all of the time. They send another driver to pick up the truck and finish the delivery.

Thats the whole thing in a nutshell......these seat meat carriers can't can't afford to pay what it takes to get a superior driver, so they hire from the bottom & use technology to make up the difference. Small carriers who have carved out a niche by offering a higher quality, albeit not cheaper, service do so by hiring superior drivers that don't need all that technology to get the job done. This is just another way for the bottom feeders to even the playing field. Why go to the hassle of trying to compete on their level when you can get some parasitic government agency to force your competition to drop to your level.

Having been one who has driven with e-logs, I can say that they aren't the be all and end all of honesty in the driver work week.
I wanted to get out before winter. I couldn't see myself watching an ice storm ensconse my truck when I could have made a run for it and be out of it.
Strike? Any of you following the strike in France right now in regards to them changing the retirement age from 60 to 62? They're not getting a lot of leverage. And the country is in chaos. Here came the hooded teen rioters to break windows and set everything in their path on fire...And the president, who has forced the fuel distributers open and running has flatly stated that all will go on as planned. Please help me understand what their strike has accomplished, is their cause any less noble than a so called truck strike in the US would be, and what the possible negitive outcome would be.
I've seen first hand that strikes never make up for the loss during the work stoppage. I will NOT assume any responsiblity for my "fellow" drivers that would just as soon cut my throat. If we all minded our own business to the best of our ablity (including negotiation for our own jobs) then we would all find our own levels. My skill, driving record, and ability has nothing to do with the next incompetent, neglectful, inconsiderate boob who happens to have a CDL! I paid dues, you get to, too. And why should my suffering (from a work stoppage on my behalf) go to benifit YOU? My efforts belong to me and mine.....unless you are suggesting a more "social" type of society!diesel_weasel Thanks this.
