Orientation is(or was, dont know for sure now) 3 days. You seriously need to have all your ducks in a row. Main thing that almost kept me out was they needed work history and mine was pretty fubar at the time.

Trainers can be good or bad just like everything else. I had a great trainer. He was a 6'9" 50yo mexican and I was a 26yo 5'10 white as a ghost lol, we made an interesting pair.

How many miles you get can really depend on you. When ya first start, work your butt off, dont complain and make sure your FM knows who ya are when ya call. Once they figure out that your one of THIER good drivers, your wheels will keep moving.

Hometime wasnt bad for me, but I also dont have wife/kids waitin for me. All my FMs liked me so I was able to take time off pretty much where ever I wanted to and on short notice. One time I got a random load to Florida, where my Dad and brother live. After I picked up the load I called my FM and 2 days later I'm relaxin w/ a beer in one hand and a fishin pole in the other. Generally speaking you needed 7-10days notice for home time. I always asked to be home the day before I actually wanted because they will not always get ya there on the correct day.

as far as etc. If you do go to work with USX, try to keep your truck out of the Medway, OH terminal for repairs. It's extreamly busy. My home terminal was in OKC and I could trust those guys to Git R Dun

The "computer" they have in thier trucks isnt bad but can go on the blitz like any other electronics. Which means, dont get dependent on it. When it IS working fine, it's real nice, just cant send msgs while the truck is rolling.

Your first truck you will not likely get a choice, it'll be whatever they give you. My first was a Freightliner, 2nd was a Freightliner. Third one I was able to worm my way into a 07 Volvo which sure was nice.(First truck got hit by a mexican trucker in Laredo, 2nd truck was a lease truck which they only gave to me as a temp)

    Hope this helps

    ChampLady Thanks this.

Thanks Ozzy. That is exactly the info I was looking for. Appreciate you taking the time. I'm headed to orientation in two weeks. I'm going in with a good attitude ( I'm coming from an office cubicle ), patience and a strong work ethic. We'll see how it goes.

This is an old post, anyway i've been with USX for 6 months now - it's a rollercoaster; there's good & bad here just as in other large trucking companies....i think it's about the same from what other new drivers are telling me....being new i gotta pay my dues i know that, and i'm dedicated to the road and will persevere until real money comes.

When I drove for USX I did a few loads to wall-mart warehouses not the store, never to target tho.
