Kinda hard to get a "DUI" if he wasn't driving or attempting to drive a vehicle. Most be like the other poster said, violating probation. The reason he got so much time, is they cut his dumb arse a break and had the time hanging over his head. He wasn't smart enough to stay out of trouble during the probation period.
Just some of the stupid things I see

I don't see where the shipper should be required to do background checks on the trucking companies they use. The way our industry is regulated, they should be able to assume that the companies are legitimate.
They aren't required to do background checks on their suppliers.
Let's take it a step further. Do you do a background check on every service or company that you use for any reason?
Are background checks required on customers in a grocery store?
I dunno, Dave. It just seems to me like the world is becoming worse and worse as time goes on.truckerdave1970, lilillill, 2fuzy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Problem is they define trouble as drinking a beer or even having one in your house. Who are they going to have to let out to make room for him?2fuzy Thanks this.

My guess is and only a guess, no alcohol or drug consumption was part of the probation. Or violating any laws. Just what I see almost daily in court.rocknroll nik, Brickman and Working Class Patriot Thank this. -
Yeah, it was. But when they put someone on probation for 9 years it seems a bit excessive. I understand that a lot of people out there deserve it. They seem to be a bit overzealous around here.
-
Well they give probation to people to give them a break on the original charge. They do that and dangle time hanging over their head as a deterant to behave themselves. Unfortunatley some just can't do that.teddy_bear6506, outerspacehillbilly and DonRobbie Thank this.

And if he had stayed home and drank his beer no one would be the wiser,...
However he was in public while violating his probation,.....He got what he deserved,... -
Oh yes, and now we get to pay another $140,000 a year for his mistake. Great system.
-
well i guess the alternative is to hang him
Injun Thanks this. -
I sure wish they were more consistent in enforcing the DUI laws in CA. Just last week I read in the paper about this woman who was sentenced to 15 years for killing someone while driving drunk, but she had 5 previous DUI's. Why does it almost always take a fatality for someone to do something about people who habitually drive drunk? It's so stupid. Because of the laxity in enforcement someone had to die, it's really senseless. I don't consider someone who has a drinking problem as a victim. They make a choice to drive, even if they are intoxicated.
And this person that you know probably had more on his record than he was letting on. My sister's bf has violated his court ordered Phase II Program, twice. He's got multiple DUI's. He's still not done any jail time, except to sober up and then get turned loose to go out and do it again. He has a suspended license, but still drives to the liquor store and sometimes goes down to Sacramento to see his family of alcoholics. I say pack them in there like sardines if you have to. They broke the law, let them suffer. Using kid gloves doesn't do any good.
Don't those Judges know an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?Big Don Thanks this.
