That was completely true, I have never met more nice people in a week than at the Carlisle OC.

 

I will share details soon it was a long week, but a good week.

 

Well I arrived in carlisle friday night at midnight, my roomate was nice about the late arrival. Saturday up at 5:45 am pick up at 6:30 at the OC 5 minutes later, every morning was like that. 1st day is long they throw alot at you, meal cards where handed out daily they pretty much gave us breakfast and lunch. When Lou is off thurs & friday no more cards. You will get assigned homework daily you are assigned homework the first day do before you leave, get it done, the sooner the better it pays off toward the end of the week. Sat,Sun, Mon, are long days back to the hotel around 6 or 7 o'clock. If you do well in class they will give you extra breaks in the day. Monday is long because you meet you driver instructor you get in the trucks on monday for an evaluation. The next 3 days are classroom and driving 1 in the morning 1 in the afternoon. If you get the homework done you will have freetime later 1 night either weds or thurs they will put you in the simulater, skids and steer tire blow out it will open your eyes. They also have about 5 hours of computer based training get this done as soon as possible too. the more they throw at you the more you need to do it pays off on thursday and friday. All check for learning test are open book. They will teach you logging, then you log your entire week, the 8 day recap, they teach you about map reading then issue you a brand new atlas, it is now time for trip planning. Pre trips can be done off on an issued card, but learn the Schnieder way to couple and uncouple you will have to know it on thursday but you can still use the cards on pre and post trip. Learn your macros this is there system for everything. Now I have said to do your homework and Computer work early right. Thursday could be free time and Friday you can be out be noon if all is done. Look it is a lot of work thrown at you. They teach you about the job. Now the people Give respect get respect Every person I met drivers, instructors, attendents was nice to talk to. The hotel is ok drivers from all the trucking companies stay there, beds warm, tv works rooms are clean with fresh towels daily. FOOD! at the OC is OK, at the Middlesex Diner is good you could eat those 2 places for cheap, if you want to eat cheaper there is fast food 6 miles down the road. well that is it for now. chin up throttle down

 

Well my TE and I got together on tuesday morning at the truck stop in southing,CT. Spent tues. and wednesday till 3 with him then he went on a 34 hour restart we were getting back together friday morning at 7:30am. So now I am in carlisle pa with nothing to do for 40 or so hours. Well SNI put me up at that Americas best hotel for 2 nights, thankfully Nick at the counter put me in a double room with only 1 bed in it so I was sure not to pick up a rooommate. Late wed. afternoon I received a call from a company that I had applied for 3 weeks before leaving for orientation. Thursday we discussed salary and i took the job. So friday I was there at 07:30 I talked to the regional student driver rep, and was very pleasantly surprised when the first thing she said was do you have a way home, do you have your car? I told her no car but could I please have a ride to the bus station, which she did arrange. I told my TE why I was leaving better pay, home daily. He completely understood and wished me luck and ask me to call him in a few days to tell him what i thought of his approach to training, I will. Now listen, I just want to say that These people at SNI carlisle were very good, I do apprciate everything they did for me, and I did take there offer for employment as a truck driver with every intention of staying with them, but in this world my first responcibility is to my family. I brought these children into the world it is my responcibility to raise them. So to all the truck drivers, I say thank you for all you do, if it were not for you nothing would move, you do deserve more. I will leave this thread up for a little while, if there are any questions that I can answer for someone, I would like to try and help.
