he can't just get another mattress, its not his truck in the first place.

by God NO.....DO NOT take any OTC meds to make you drowsy, they may affect you while you are driving, later.

now, the air mattress idea might work here, but for the time he's going to be with the trainer, its an expense he can do with out....

strap yourself is with the safety belt. some sleepers have 2 belt, some have "up to" 3. strap yourself in, just in case of a crash, you will not go flying out the window, also, this will "anchor you" to the bed, less moving around.

i don't believe its a case of sleep apnea as much as its a case of not being able to fall asleep in a moving vehicle, as he's new to all of this.

bottom line here, is i am thinking your driver trainer is doing some driving as a team operation because he's still got freight to move. typically the way it works is, when you go with a trainer, you do ALL the driving. when its time for you to sleep, the truck gets parked, you go "upstairs" he stays "downstairs" and you both go to sleep.

did this happen when you first started...?? or did he decide to go "team" right out of the box.....????

you WILL get so tired, you WILL just fall asleep, but it does take time before your body decides to say "nighty-nite" to itself.

do the best you can, i'm sure you are, but these are the things you WILL over come sooner than you think. as for eating or drinking anything before bedtime....?? only the smallest of snacks like a few crackers and water...NOT soda pop, it will have caffeine/sugar in it, and a cup of coffee or tea will be just as bad. warmed milk never allowed me to fall asleep.

now if the trainer insists on teaming, report him ASAP, that he is depriving you of your rest, and you want another trainer. or just stick it out till you're done.

I attempted to team a couple of times when I first started driving. I think everyone has the same problem but, what happens is you don't sleep :biggrin_2556:you are tired when you have to drive , then after a few days of this you are so exhausted when you get back there(the bunk} that you finally get some sleep. I never made it more than 3 months teaming cause I never could get any rest. I would wake everytime the truck would slow down or stop. And when I slept I would dream that the driver was asleep at the wheel and I would wake up and start grabbing the wheel. lol . Just hang in there and the training will be over soon . Then you can get in you're own truck and sleep.

I have found melatonin helps me sleep..
    It is over the counter.
Even a low dose (recommended amount ) puts me right to out.
I wake without any side effects or grogginess.
There are sleep conditions that this type of therapy works best on and you may get a benefit.
Check out this info and see if anything clicks.

right out of the box... matter of fact... first day when I got in... we drove to a truck stop... got some sodas and ice for the cooler.... and I drove from there...

I am going to try and finish this out... its not "bad"... its just not optimal... you know what I mean? (I am referring to the training itself)

thanks for the advice Rerun... 3 more weeks....

you're welcomed. just hang in there, think of this as a "training exercise" for when you are by yourself and doing your job. when the time comes, you'll be pulling into a rest area or truck stop, zone out for a bit, get rolling again. it'll all be second nature to you soon.

good luck, keep us up to date.

Try Calms Forte. They are a homeopathic sleep aid. They are non narcotic, and don't have the ingredient that all of the PM OTC meds do. It will help you relax, doesn't interfere with your drive the next day. Just calmness to help you rest. I've seen them everywhere including Walmart and the big chain Rx stores.
