I am on a phone so I can't dissect your posts like you do mine. I will say that 4 years of college should have given you an understanding of the word 'unless.' You gave no third option, it was implied when you said prepass doesn't matter when the bypass sign is on -or- the scale is closed, implying that the bypass sign and closed scales are two separate instances, thus "prepass doesn't matter when bypass sign is on and scales are open -or- when scales are closed" which is contradictory to your first statement of "pull in on red light [given the exception that] the scale is closed."
Road experience has nothing to do with this discussion between you and I, so I'm not sure why it keeps coming up.
to add: you've already made up your mind about not being wrong, and this conversation was really about semantics and not the point of the topic, so there is really no point in arguing about it. I know your kind, you will bang away at the keyboard for days until the other person gives up and you can place another notch in your desk.
congratulations. another internet battle won.

You do what your pre-pass says regardless if an OPEN scale says bypass. If your prepass gives you a green light then you can bypass the scale. If your prepass gives you a red light ...you must stop at an open scale even if the big sign says bypass !! If your prepass does not do anything and the scale is open you enter the scale. If scale is closed you breath normal, bypass that scale and proceed to the next scale.. hahaaaa

I only enter if both tell me to come in or if prepass is non responsive. Any indication to bypass and I'm gone. been ok so far
if that changes then my habits will too.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
My company puts it in with the Permit book. Not my fault if people don't read it or don't look for it.

Scales were open heading North through Abrams in WI. Drove in... Got the Bypass lane arrow. Took it. At the end of the bypass is a small box with a hard to read "go to Scales" lit up. Saw it when it was to late. What did I do? I drove on. Not that I should of, but they need to make that last one more easy to see!

We don't all work for your company. The companies that I've worked for don't provide it, and I didn't know one existed to ask for. Anyways I'm sure I'm not the only one that's done ok by winging it.

Don't know where you got this information! Pre Pass is a private company, with no direct ties to any DOT...either State of Federal...it amounts to a convenience for both the DOT and the driver. PP is not in any way ABSOLUTE in determining whether you can bypass any scale...if any bypass directive is there, the driver should take the bypass...the only consistent thing about the system is the RED light when the scale is open...then you MUST go into the scale...RED light or NO light MUST REPORT TO THE SCALE!
Perhaps you are reading into the signs that read (not a quote, but approximation) "Follow in cab directions"...don't you think it a bit questionable that these "Follow in cab direction" signs are permanent, and the "OPEN/CLOSED" signs are changing? The "Follow" signs were put in place when PP started operating...an early advisory to drivers that the scale has the PP equipment. -
Whatever!

When entering AZ from CA on 10, I often get the "all trucks enter scales" sign as well as the green light from my prepass. Being the girl scout that I am and frankly because I'm so freaking tight fisted with money and unwilling to have to pay a citation I would enter the scales. I asked my husband and was told to bypass the scale. I asked my DM and was told to bypass the scales. I asked my fleet manager and was told to by pass the scales. But yet......I still had a hard time ignoring that sign and would enter the scale.
So I asked the DOT officer at the scale. He said "by pass the scale if you get an in cab signal".
I now bypass the scale.kd5icr and otherhalftw Thank this. -
New law (as far as I know) in Maryland now. If you get redlighted, and the scale is the type that weighs you in motion and then either directs you to the static scale or a bypass lane you must go to the static scale regardless of what the overhead light tells you to do.
