All very good points Ducks. All I can answer is for myself and I know if I want something bad enough I can do what I have to in order to make it happen. As far as the sleep study if that were the case I would take a job doing something until I could put back the money to have it done or if I had no other choice I would take out a small signature loan from my bank. The company didn't say they wouldn't hire them they just said they wouldn't hire them until they had the study done. I am assuming (yes I know what assume stands for) if they had the study done and needed the cpap machine they would be considered for employment after they had enough data on the card. I may be wrong about that. Maybe I didn't read it correctly.

Ms. Nana, all you have to do is ask for the keys and it's yours. You are worth more to me than this truck is. I was speaking in relativity to my own body shape. What's fat on me looks fabulous on you. Dry your tears and c'mere for a hug.

FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT.....
Sorry Granny....I just couldn't help myself!
Honestly though....I think it sucks that it has gotten to the point where people feel that they have to step in and do something about this!
But this whole grossly obese truck driver thing has gotten to the point where someone has to do something!
I don't know what the answer is but when it becomes "normal" to see 450 pound people that can barely walk trudging around truckstops in sweats because regular clothes don't fit and they have to "rest every hundred feet or so to catch their breath....There's a problem!
In the last few years it's gotten ridiculous how many horribly obese people we see out here driving trucks...
I don't like the idea of the government stepping in and making these people unemployable because the government screws up everything it touches but somehow there has to be a wakeup call for some of these people!
Interestingly enough, Since the whole discussion of BMI came to light...I've seen a lot more people walking laps around the truckstop parking lots than ever before....So maybe it's helping a little bit.stlcardsfn and Ducks Thank this. -

*turns and runs to hug Injun* I think I could just adopt you and pop you right in with my other daughters!Injun Thanks this. -
Truthfully I think what has happened is that it use to be someone could just not hire you and didn't have to say why. It could be your weight, race, gender, religion, heck the way you parted your hair or your accent. But with all of the political correctness they must come up with an acceptable legal reason. That may be why the industry has seen such a large (large! oh oh a pun) grouping of overweight people in the last decade. There wasn't an acceptable, legal reason for refusing to hire the overweight.
With that said....it's not just the trucking industry. Take a look at society, our children are either unhealthy from being underweighty or unhealthy from being overweight. I personally think the more society clamps down on the weight issue the more we see it worsen. Not to mention that what was once a healthy weight is now viewed by society as "fat".
It's darn difficult for someone with a true weight problem who struggles trying to lose weight to not buckle under and simply eat until they explode due to the pressure imposed by society.
I could go on and on and on on this issue but......I'll show mercy on y'all.Ducks, stlcardsfn and Injun Thank this. -
If you are overweight it is because you intake (eat) more calories than you expend (exercise). Now you can propose any cause you wish to explain the overeating and couch potato lifestyle, including "society imposed pressure," but it really is that simple. That said, I have nothing against fat people... except when they ride motorcycles. No Crackie, please!
I personally utilize "The Humor Diet." It's hard to overeat with tongue planted firmly in cheek.
Ducks Thanks this. -
Not always on the eating thing Emton, there are legit medical reasons thyroid problems for example. Please do not make a sweeping statement, when its not correct.
And no, im not 'fat' or even overweight, i got about 10 extra lbs, im 6' and 198

Oh please don't try and hide your sanctimonious self righteousness behind the phrase "I have nothing against fat people" when you follow it with a crass joke about them.
Many of us know exactly why we're overweight and many know that it isn't as simple as you toss out in your great wisdom. And some of us, both thin and fat are a bit smarter and more informed than yourself. -
If only it were as simple as this. While the above may be true, there are other reasons why someone's body may hold on to fat: Metabolism gone haywire, constantly stressed, horrible sleeping patterns, horrible eating patterns such as eating meals late night, someone mentioned thyroidal issues, environmental issues, etc.
Unfortunately I live in a world where other people automatically judges someone if they're fat. No, I'm not constantly scarfing down junkfood such as twinkies, burgers, pizza, sweets, or whatever someone's smug self righteous mind thinks. Different people have different weight issues, and the solutions are not always the same. Otherwise if that eat less calories and fat mantra ever worked for my own body, I would have easy shed the pounds a long time ago.Injun Thanks this.
