Bend, and break.
There is a difference. I wont run 90 hours to make them happy. But I will fudge it a bit if I must to shave the extra 15.
As was said "I will see when I get out there" I experianced a little when I road with someone for a couple months, but your right, im not there on my own or in that situation.

The way the H.O.S. rules are now I believe you must take at least 8 hours in the sleeper on the first leg of the split. The old rules allowed you to save your driving time as you were able to split any way you wanted...if I remember correctly. -
But the reality is 99.9999% of those who run illegal feel exactly the same way you do about legal and safe. Exactly the same. So how do they all go from having the same 'legal is the only way for me' attitude that you now have to running less than honest logs?
Well that's exactly what you're going to find out once you're out there in the trenches. I won't bother to try and tell you how it will happen because you probably wouldn't understand nor would you believe me if you did understand. But suffice it to say that EVERYONE starts out with the exact same attitude you have now. And nearly all them end up running illegal logs at one point or another.
It might make you feel better to look down on those who run illegal and to tell yourself that you'll NEVER do it. But I would caution you not to get too hung up on that now lest you end up hating the guy you see staring back at you in the mirror later. Because chances are better than not, you'll end up like one of those you choose to look down on right now. That's just how it is.Texas-Nana, Raiderfanatic, rookietrucker and 2 others Thank this. -
I use splits fairly often, it is basically a way of taking 2 hours of incidental break and off setting that against less time in the sleeper(8 hours), it used to be any increment 2 hours or greater and the adjacent breaks both ways had to equal 10 hours or more.
I liked 4/6 or 5/5, or 3/7, compared to the 8 and 2 we are allowed now. Drive time and on duty time had to adhere to the 11/14 when adding before, and now only the 8 hours in the sleeper extends your 14. Drive time has to be 11 hours or less added both ways from a break, and the 14 is also extended, but the 14 still over rides the 11.
I had it explained to me by a DOT supervisor in OH before the rule was changed. It can be hard to understand, but it is a tool to use and still be legal and actually adhere to the HOS rules. An instructor may not teach it, but stating it isn't in the rules by the DOT is just another lie.Texas-Nana Thanks this. -
And you would be suprised what I would belive, I am going with swift afterall ^.^ -
Thank You, You said exactly what I was trying to speak earlier. I was giving a example of how you might end up bending the rule every now and then.

Looks like we need a thread on how to keep your logbooks in the real world...
-
If we have to argue about logs this much, maybe the feds should get their heads straightened out. All this confusion = clueless ego-heads making the rules.

I have it a bit easier since I'm dedicated. If you run o.t.r. you'll no doubt have to take the real world creativity lesson. But you should really try to plan your trips as efficiently as possible. You don't want to make a habit of '25 hours into 24'. Sooner or later it will catch up to you. Let your dispatcher know your available hours you'll gain at midnight each day and plan your trip as best you can.
walstib Thanks this.
