With winter coming way to fast for our liking I thought I would share a couple of tips for the new drivers out there. If I forget anything please feel free to add to it
1) keep an ear on your CB and weather radio. Most drivers will let you know if the weather is getting worse further up the road. Also, most companies send out a weather report at least once a day. Pay attention to it, it can have valuable information for the areas you are heading to.
2) carry cat litter. It can help you if you get stuck.
3) watch on coming traffic. If you see it is starting to thin out and there are not a lot of big trucks on the road the weather is probably getting worse up ahead or the road is shut down.
4) SLOW DOWN!!! Don't try to drive like you would on a dry road and take ramps at least 5 miles under the posted limit. Those limits were made for four-wheelers not us.
5) If there is ice forming on the back of your mirror you can bet it is on the road also.
6) Last but never least!!! Don't try to drive outside of your comfort zone! If you are not comfortable with the weather shut down!
Always remember no load is worth your life or the life of others! Use your common sense and pull over if the weather is too bad!
Hope this helps everyone. Good luck out there and keep safe!![]()

"Chain-up to get out of the situation.....not to get in it..."Voyager1968, trukngrl, just lil me and 2 others Thank this. -
Very Good one Patriot! I try not to chain up at all...my granddaddy always said if it was bad enough to chain up then it is bad enough to pull over. He was a trucker for 60 years so I tend to lean on his advice above all else!

momentum is your friend but can also bite ya in the butt
trukngrl Thanks this. -
Haha...ain't that the truth! Unfortunately you see the disadvantages of momentum all the time out here!

true but in my neck of the woods I see many folks spinout cause there scared ^&*()&%$ and go to slow, when there that scared they should be watching a movie when it gets slick its about being smooth and steady and when ya can't see its time to shut her down

Yes that is definitely something they need to teach everyone when out here on the road! And I will keep taking his advice. Been doing it since I was a little girl! Well that and the ring on his hand hurt on the back side of my head!!! Learned real quick not to grind any gears!! LOL

Haha....Patriot I agree totally!

Speeding is the big one. There's always a BILLY- BIG- RIGGER out there and 9 chances out of ten he'll be the one you see in the ditch. She said it best, don't drive out of your comfort zone.
Wargames Thanks this.
