So you are saying you make $197,000 a year driving someone else's truck?

    $3,800.00 X 52 weeks = $197,600.00

sadly times have changed....America is whimpier in these times...hitting or yelling at a kid is not politcally correct, we must say please don't do that....same when someone attacks us...most of America rather talk about it then do anything about it...please don't attack us. I only hope one day that all of America will be offended by this statement, and do something to change it's truth. If we take a look of the founders of our country and the people who own businesses and corporations, I am sure if you look deep enough into their childhood that you would not find whimpy discipline like timeouts, you would find butt whoopins....and that is who we should truely thank is their parents for shaping our founders and successful employers into the leaders they are today.

I apologize for any miss-spellings...my mind is clouded by fermented wheat. :)

The Teamsters Local 470 rate for a triaxle driver is $22.80 an hour with time and a half over 8. That is every hour from the time you punch the clock in the morning, until you punch out at night. The time you spend pretripping, post tripping, breakdowns, loading and unloading delays, and traffic are all paid.

Lets say you only work 8 hours a day 5 days a week and 50 weeks a year. That comes to 2,000 hours. 2,000 X 22.80 = $45,600. Not to mention the Cadillac of benefit plans you get. Medical, dental eyeglasses perscriptions, braces for the kids teeth etc. This is all real money, not OTR dreamland money.

Oh yeah and then there is the PENSION, but then again that doesn't count for anything

That's full wage not starting wage although I know t doesn't take to long to get to full scale.
Plus you don't mention the years of junk runs waiting to get Senoirity so you can get god runs.
Plus you don't mention the times ot working whil you are striking because someone got a bug in there butt for some reason that afects nobody else.
I just turned down a union job last year so I know what there benifits are. Plus My entire family is in the trade unions so I am somewhat familiar with them. You like your benifits package but its basicly the only thing left to negotiate with so what do you think will hapen to it in the future? The trade unions are already down to having to pay alot for there insurance and they negotiated away all there vacations. What's the point? Other than putting money into some union leaders pockets.

And I get paid every two weks and I never said that I make that much every paycheck. I am however on track for around $73k this year. Factor that with no wories about making payments, fuel costs, will all the brokers pay this month, thre weeks vacation and that is a god enough deal that I can't rationalize going o/o even though I have been seriosly thinking about it. I'm just the kind of person who likes to work for myself. So I do understand wanting to be an o/o

I'm a Teamster O/O and I don't worry about weather or not brokers pay. I don't touch anything that comes from a broker, all brokers have is the equivalent of table scraps, Kind of what you would throw to a stray dog. Brokers talk about $2 a mile like that is a good rate. I think I average around $5. Something I learned a long time ago, if you work cheap you get treated like a dog and you have to play fetch for your money.

$5 a mile is better than $2... but how many many miles do you get a year at that rate? (not trying to get personal... just curious...)

25 to 30 thousand. Most days I run somewhere between 100 and 200 miles.
