I know that most truck stops provide free truck parking when you buy fuel or merchandise at the store.

I am considering developing an upgraded truck parking facility that would include security parking, private large showers multiple areas with comfortable (non-prison grade) furniture with large screen TV's., Wi-Fi, workout area (weights, bikes, etc) like the recreation center you find at a nice apartment complex.

    The questions are:
    1. Is this something professional drivers would appreciate
    2. Would Drivers be willing to pay for a better experience?
    3. What additional features would Drivers appreciate
    4. Understanding that truck stop parking is usually free but primitive, what would Drivers be willing to pay for the features if it were a one low price all inclusive program.

I am considering building this along I-70 in Colorado.

Thanks and I appreciate your input.

Free and reiable Wifi would be good. Go as low as you can on the prices in the Cstore, good healthy food along with some of the usual T/S food. Security preferably off duty PD in the lot to keep the lizards out.Since many big companies have yards in Denver,T/A,Sapp Bros, and Pilot/J offer free parking many truckers will park there before paying to park. Clean and low priced showers. Most T/S's charge $10 or so if a driver doesn't buy 50 gallons of fuel. If you can build your T/S near a decent motel/hotel like Best Western or Holiday Express. There are three reasons I suggested that. The first is when the roads closed due to weather. The second is when a driver has to wait a day or two to their truck fixed due to waiting for a part. The third is if a driver decides to get of the truck for a night while on a 34 restart or has to sit over the weekend on/for a load.

I think the fitness part of your plan is important. We as a country need to move more and this profession needs to start having more exposure to some cardio equipment. Especially since I'm not out there yet, I know that I would really appreciate some exercise equipment when the weather won't permit doing something outside when I'm stopped.

I will be going into the profession overweight so get to work :biggrin_255:, so I can get to work!

Currently most decent truck stops offer security, private showers, TV rooms & some even have theaters, & wifi! The fitness thing has been tried many years ago & bombed very quickly.

either the drivers didn't want to use it. And the driver's who did want to use it, primariliy damaged it. Plus the truck stops can't even clean a toilet seat properly, so I'm sure there were many who refused to use the exercise equipment because of their sanitation reasons.

At this time, I only know of one truck stop that still has an excersise/weight room. I haven't been there in awhile, so they may have removed it.

Now you have a good idea! But unless there is a need & want for an excersise/weight room, it's going to bomb again! You need to educate the truck drivers first about excersise before they want it.

The only truck stop I know of with a fitness room is the Garden of Eden in Eden, ID.

Rob11xx I haven't seen very many drivers exercise in the usual way. I haven't jogged since I was in the USAF. What I usually do when I park at a T/S where I have to walk a little. I also try to keep eating junk food to a mininum.

Well, seeing as how gyms have been tried before I would say that you would need to reinvent how it's done at truck stops. Get a staff specifically assigned to the gym and try to get them educated on the lifestyles of truckers so they are able to help them in a more specialized way. Some gyms these days are grasping technology and making it more enjoyable to be there. The one I go to locally is open 24/7, the cardio machines have tvs on them to pass the time and they have tons of cable machines that target every muscle quickly.

I know that a quick 45 minutes to a hour of good muscle training will make you feel a lot better, and quickly. Offer something like 100 gallons gets you a shower and some gym time or something.
