In the past 3 years or so that I have been on this forum I have only met 1 driver from here.
I have to admit I have never really tried though. I post location on JJs place, that never helped, so now I am doing it on the "where am I" thread under stories from the road.
I try and update every day, or at least give an idea where I will be the next day with it.
I met JJ by chance, I saw the graphics on the side of his truck when we were both getting fuel in Erie PA.
Using the where are you thread I hope to meet more people.

Yeah I know what you mean. I met Cutter and Jasko by chance. I knew they were going to be in class behind me and I ended up running into them on the Central shuttle. Hope to meet some people out there but I know the chances can be pretty slim. Its a big country and everyone running every which way makes meeting up tough.

Well congrats to you Smurfette. Sorry I havent been here in about a week but we have been running pretty hard the last week. Went from SC to Kentucky to Utah back to Kentucky. I am now in the western part of Nebraska and have to unload in about 4 hours. I then have to goto the eastern side of Nebraska to get loaded and run back through to unload in Utah again lol.
I was actually at the Utah terminal this past week. Pretty nice place. I will probably be back there sometime tommorow. Love the mountains in Utah so beautiful.
Been doing well with my trainer. Atleast he tells me so lol. I still think my 45 sucks but I still got a few weeks to get it down. I havent really had the chance to do much backing actually but my trainer has been great.
Ill try to keep in touch more often but after driving 10 a day I have found that I havent wanted to break out the computer lol. I havent been sleeping all that much either. While truck is moving I only get a couple hours here and there. When its sitting....rarely... I can get about 5 or 6 hours before we hit the road again so that kind of catches me up. I have not been tired at all though so thats good.... actually the other day I was driving and it was a good thing we had time on the load because I was so tired I pulled in a rest area and told my trainer I had to get a few hours of sleep. I felt tired and was not about to put people in danger. Trainer said I did the right thing and hop up get some sleep. I knew from the begining I got a good trainer. -
I'm glad things are working well for you Scott. We have 2 more days or Orientation then they said by Wed afternoon we should know who our trainers will be. I'm just ready to get the next step going. We were at the hotel all day on Sunday with pretty much nothing to do. Most of the class slept then were wired all morning long. Tomorrows orientation they said would last till about 4 that's not too bad. It snowed in the yard last night and rained all day yesterday. So I'm happy to be inside for a while.

Ill be in Utah again tonight. Have to wait on a load going to cali. -
What part of Cal are you going too?

I think it was Colton but I wasnt there long thank god. Headed to Grandview WA next and then to kentucky.
I got about 2 weeks left with my trainer and my 45 still sucks. I can drive just fine but cant seem to back this mofo. I can straight back and parralel park but thats all I learned in school. I have got almost no practice time on the 45 and my trainer is agitated with me that I cant do it. That makes me agitated with myself. Ive tried it maby 4 times. Only time I did it was at a walmart that had oversized parking. I think my biggest trouble is that the space seems so small to me that I lack the faith that im going in the hole without hitting anything. I dunno. I hope it comes to me soon and I hope he gives me some time with it. I dont understand how he can expect me to do something I have never done and also expect me to learn it with no practice in it. We run run run nonstop. Today I drove 11 straight hours taking time only to piss which took about 2 minutes. He was on his 34 while I have been driving the last 3 shifts. Then when Im not driving im expected to stay up and watch him drive and do all the paperwork all the work with the shippers and recievers etc. Not really complaining about the work so much but #### I need more then 2 hours of sleep... especially when Im driving we never stop and when hes driving we never stop.
/shrug I dunno.... I guess im just cranky from being tired. Was a long hell day of driving back roads in the middle of nowhere doing 55 mph or less through cali and nevada. Then to top it off the wife is pissed off because I didnt take the time to call her today... I was like What time? -
Your wife will learn to deal with it over time. It is hard to get use to a drivers schedule.
On the backing thing.
The hard part to learn is the setup.
-As you drive past the hole on a see side back you need to start turning right at about the time your landing gear is even with the center of the hole.
Then get around 20 degrees of angle and as you are still moving forward turn the wheel back to the left and get a good angle to your trailer.
This way you will already have the backing turn started when you start moving.
-Never try and go into a hole shallow, this is what causes trucks on your blind side to get hit. You just cannot see the swing.
-Try and get most of your turning done before your trailer starts into the hole to eliminate swing area.
Once you get use to the counter steer on the set up and placement it will get easier and you will not need as much room in front of the truck to swing around.
This is where most new drivers screw up. They start the turn without counter steer and end up going into the back too shallow.
When you do this you risk hitting the truck on your blind side as well as having to pull up 30 times to try and fix it.
PS... Don't get frustrated ,it just makes it harder and you get into a rush.
Your trainer is supposed to be teaching you how to back, and giving you allot of practice.
If you get to a shipper early see if you can practice for a while on an open dock. -
BTW, I am glad to see you guys and gal's made it.
We have pretty good luck here. I don't see many that spend some time on the forums learning a little before they go not making it.
Seems the little bit of knowledge they learn about trucking, the lifestyle, and what to expect helps them allot when they get to company's.
They are going in with eyes open, and not just a dream. -
I cant wait to get to central...a friend of mine said he talked to a central guy earlier today, he said the guy had came out the school 8months ago, and he averages almost 3000 miles a week or a tad bit more...it seems like they are still doing good there, cant wait to get there
