Pilot (pronounced pee-lot) Crossville, TN. I-40 xit 320
CB man, driving a p/u with a shell has a sign on the side claiming he can get your cb set up, to get 5-22 miles range, without a linear. My first questions to him was, receive or transmit, AM or SSB? He stated, depending on the truck, but with a few things from the Pilot's CB section, he can increase your range. I been around the CB block a few times so I immediately smelled a rat. I don't believe this for a second, but was wondering if anyone ever dealt with this guy. DISCLAIMER I'm not calling him a liar, just my experience with CB radio tells me different
More CB Snake Oil????

Thats quite a diffrence to me in the range he is claiming.....with a descent tuned radio and
and good quality tuned antenna you can get 5-10 miles range transmit if the airwaves arent
clogged up with jabber....Anytime I hear cb shops claiming junk like that i shy away from em....
I shy away from cb shops anyway...A friend of mine tunes my radios the rest I do -
Here we go again
You have to remember there is no requirement no license required to fix/tune or modify CB radios. ANYONE can call themselves a TECH open a shop with no restrictions. Since 1982 NO FCC LICENSE is required and a state cannot regulate radio repair bottom line you have no protection.
NOW along comes a CBer wanting that 5-22 mile range and he has his sucker ..... oops customer who is willing to put hard earned money down.
One of 2 things will happen either the customer THINKS he has the new range and tells everyone going down the road WOW I TALK TO JAPAN EVERY NIGHT or .....
That no good rip off #$%^ took my money.
OK back to the real world ..
I run as much as 300 watts on 29.600FM and it is unlikely I will get 20 miles car to car except when we are out in the open. No tech will tell you how much range you can get and if he does look for the snake oil

I feel all CB's should be able to get at least TX & RX 5 or more miles. Without his help. If not somethings wrong.squirrellsgnwild Thanks this.

That guy's been around forever, and, to his credit, he mostly helps guys get their antenna system right, and he doesn't sell $100 antennas to do it. I don't know what he does to radios, but the way his sounds, I'm never going to let him touch one of mine.

Josh ......
I running a special on Florida snake oil you rub it on your antenna and it makes the signal slip in and out faster .....josh.c Thanks this. -
Yeah I call, Bovine Feeces!!!! It may be possible, on SSB at night, but both trucks better be on flat unobstructed terrain. on the Ancient Mary side I don't see that happening. I can barely hear guys running linears 7 miles down the road, my range is about 4 miles give or take depending on terrain, and radio traffic

And i have a special on SWR grease rub it on the Antenna and awy go the SWr'S
josh.c Thanks this. -
Wow, I've been using liquid squelch in a spray bottle.
josh.c Thanks this. -
You guys are making this way too complicated-the best way to grease your antenna is just stick it down the oil fill tube.
RockinChair Thanks this.
