I purchased an 83 International COE yesterday from a farmer it has 743k original miles and runs great but i want it to be my own personal truck so and im deciding to rebuilding the engine, cpl is 529 and its a 300 big cam 2, runs great and the cummins brake sounds amazing through the 10 in bull haulers. My dads mechanic is a cummins geek and is saying to do the inframe and rebuild the pump swap the button and add a spring, go to a cummins high pressure system and i should have a nice beast able to keep up with my Cats. Im sorry but i dont know much about Cummins ive had teh yellow fever all my life and quiet sincerely i dont know if i should be spending money in a come appart.

You've got to my opinion one of the best engines ever produced, I had a 350 BC III on a COE Int'l and back then It would do what ever a 3406 B would with less fuel.

I don't know with 300 hp, but I used to to exactly 5.5 to 5.75 steady pulling a flat bed from Las Vegas to all over the Peoples Republik of California, loaded both ways with close to 80K lbs all the time and had a 9 speed direct and 24.5 tall tires, I always wished it had a thirteen, because it was either too high or too low rpm going up the hills and I was sure it could get a little better mileage.

put the duel fuel line kit on it from pittsburg power about $80 bucks so it feeds the fuel to both ends makes a big difference like 30 hp easy mod

I love these motors and let me tell you how fuel efficient they are, down here where I live (Florida Keys) we go to Miami for all our loads, flat sea level ground second the best fuel mileage that we have experience here come from a Big Cam III 350, 378 Pete dump truck 8.5 mpg that's loaded one way with 70K lbs but consider that City driving, this truck has now over 2 million miles and 1.3 millions on the last inframe, still put 450 to 500 miles a day and only use a gallon of oil betwin oil change which the last four or five years have been at 20k miles, there are a few other trucks with them Big cams reporting 8 mpg, same roads same loads.

The best mileage was an L8000 Ford that I used to have with a 8.3 Cummins 250 hp I got as much as 9.25 mpg driving exactly by the speed limit, but usually 8.75 to 9 mpg was the standard, so if you rebuild it keep us posted and please don't call them come apart, I have more faith on those old engines than any other, specially the new tech, my next truck will have a BCIII loaded to the gills.

There is a guy here that has a T800 KW with a BCIII with some mods and he is spanking the big Cats with up to 550 hp, one of the things he did is he got the intake manifold from a N14 and air to air, some twicking on the pump and one size larger injectors but other wise evrything else is stock, he used to walk all over me empty or loaded with my 475 Cat that was flashed to 500 hp, until I ran into Mr Haney and he re flashed my ECM, but that still is a very strong Big Cam, I can't tell you enough how much I love those things.
