I'm out with my Swift Mentor relearning all my old bad habits from when I drove before, My Mentor is very nice guy. My wife is not having the same experience. She was not treated well by her Mentor and told repeatedly :)biggrin_25510: THIS IS TRUCKING, GET USE TO IT :biggrin_25510:) She was given two options: #1 Was told the wait for a new female Mentor was long, and if Swift can not find her one in two weeks she will be terminated. #2 I go to Mentor School and mentor my wife. I asked my mentor about option #2. He informed me: "You have to be a clean Swift driver for one year to become a mentor. Wife & I don't have the time to wait a year if this is true. If you know anything about Swift H/W policy, We could really use the help. No bashing please, not trying to start a war, just need Info. Thank You :biggrin_25514:

A trucker's site is probably not the best place to ask someone if a husband can teach a wife anything....:biggrin_25523:

Your mentor doesn't know what the heck he's talking about. An exception to the length of service with Swift before mentoring is made for spouses. My husband mentored me. Unfortunately he continues to think he's still mentoring me. :biggrin_25523::biggrin_25523::biggrin_25523:

I have to tell you......I'm shocked by what I'm hearing on this forum about driver services' attitude towards new drivers during their mentoring period. It's not at all what I experienced. In fact they would call me on the sly, and ask me over and over if everything was okay with my husband mentoring me. It's what other female students experienced as well. Driver services was incredibly concerned that we were being taught and not being harrassed. They would offer us other mentors every week. It got to a point of being really funny.

Anyway, mentor your wife. Get her off that truck with the witch no one needs that kind of garbage when they're trying to learn. When you do mentor her.....do me a personal favor please: let her do the stuff, don't "baby" her on the backings because you're trying to "help" her or "take care" of her. I know it's difficult for a good husband to not pamper a wife and we absolutely love y'all for it, but it's hard to learn to dock and pass that test after mentoring if hubby has done all the tough dockings for us.

    sorry......I'm babbling again.

I sure look forward to maybe seeing y'all on the road.

And this is new information(???)...I would guess that at least 50% of the Swift Mentors...and we will include trainers from the other training companies...don't have a clue whats going on..let alone being able to TEACH something to another driver who knows even less!

Absolutely correct...a new solo driver can go straight from the mentors truck, into his/her own truck...get down to Phoenix (or other terminal) attend the Mentor class and then proceed to load up and Mentor the spouse. Actually, all things considered, one of the better plans that Scott Maldenado ever pushed through with the Mentor program...maybe the only thing he did right!
And he still hasn't learned anything...but he is a warm snuggly device in the cold AZ evenings/mornings...right?!

Nana you just got lucky with your rep from DS...what you are referring to is SOP with the majority of DS persons!
And who would call the Mentor to check and see if he/she was being protected from harassment? Especially from a spouse student? How DID your hubby ever survive those 6 weeks...all the things he had to do...to keep you safe!

They tested you on those tough drop/hook docks right? LOL

Again? I couldn't hear you over the babble! LOL

It may take some time for them to be recruited into the Wally fleet...be patient Nana!:biggrin_25514::biggrin_2559:

One of these days Alice............straight to the mooooooooooon!!!!!:biggrin_25523::biggrin_25523::biggrin_25523:

Actually, you've forgotten about my test from hell at the Denver terminal. You know........the one where I laid my head on the steering wheel and cried in front of the tester? :biggrin_25524: And then he offered me food, a hard boiled egg, some carrot sticks and finally a chocolate hoho. LOL

I did something like 15 different backings and a complete road test pluse the pre trip exam again. However..........I did learn a great deal that day.

I also learned that male testers don't know quite what to do with a student who stops the truck, pulls the brakes, lays on the steering wheel and cries. I keep waiting to hear some big burly guy say he cried too. :biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:

Not as a company driver , that is why me and my husband was O/O when I was with them . It is a great company they treated us good. I wanted to go back with them but when my husband come home in 08 to take Chemo treatments for nine months we lost the Peterbilt , so if we went back we would have to go as company drivers.
We have two little four pound shihtzu's that are my heartbeat and I couldn't leave them home. Southern Cal in Birmingham Al is giving us as many miles as we can drive as a team and letting our babies go with us..
