thanks MysticHZ Per diem is just an example of the many ways CRE will cheat drivers. I got NO detention pay on a 14 hr. wait. I got no drop pay on a 5 stop LTL. There were misc. deductions on my weekly pay voucher that I didn't get a chance to ask payroll about, but I'm pretty sure they were not for my benefit.

So what happens if you cant get a pass card or hazmat then
they fire you with out even starting or they give so many days too get it, do they offer refresher coursers as i been off the road nearly 4 years, thanks

Why wouldn't you be able to get a passport unless you weren't a citizen? Pretty easy to get one, and unavoidable when they make it part of the orientation process. Now if you can prove that Canada won't let you in, then maybe they won't force you to get one... If you can't get in based on your past legal history, then you just can't go.
Hazmat? Different deal. Your on your own getting that ball rolling with your state's DMV... but since the TWIC background check is already being performed as it's another item you apply for during orientation... The only thing preventing you from getting Hazmat would be your lack
of ability to pass the test.
I'm not sure how hard they push to make sure you get the Hazmat... I waited almost a year, but it wasn't a requirement until shortly after I got mine... Previously it had only been encouraged.
Refresher courses, not really offered. Four years off the road would defiantly require you to run some training miles. -
Its an opt-in deal at Prime. They don't penalize you for going on per diem either - you get the whole tamale.
Hmmm... seems to be a trend these days. Saw a lil' Pete masquerading as a Marten the other day - also I've seen at least one USX. Can't remember if that one had a sleeper or was just a day cab. -
You told the instructors you were too tired to drive the simulator? You just earned yourself the crappiest truck that they can find in the lot! Don't mean to make fun of you but that's funny!

Actually, the guy was very understanding about it. and by the way, the guys in the sim lab have nothing to do with what truck i get. A guy i met in orientation that i get along with really well got stuck in a baby pete because his codriver got sent home for high bloodsugar. If she cant get it under control after a month or so he is just gonna run solo till i hit my 60,000mi and then we will upgrade to a freightshaker or full size pete and go team. And before anyone says anything about both of us getting stuck in a baby pete...... it just wont happen. they take the passenger seat out to save weight, that is the whole point of the baby petes, to save the weight allowance for the load. Tiny sleeper, one fuel tank, no apu, no passenger seat = heavy ### trailer, lol.

and now for my daily update, lol. this morning was pretty uneventful, went over the pay scales, got our comdata cards, and listened to the risk management guy for awhile, had lunch, then headed to the terminal to meet our fleet managers and trainers. I wont say my FM, or trainers names but suffice it to say that they seem to be great people and I think i will get along with them just great. Trainer showed me her new freightliner (she is a L/O) and then handed me the keys and said "lets take er for a spin". I logged into the qualcomm and then drove around the lot for a few minutes getting used to the truck, after that she had me take it out on the interstate for 15 or 20 min and then headed back to the campus inn. We have a load headed to cali in the morning which she will be picking up then she will grab me and we will hit the road.

there are a few other ways to "save weight" on a truck, and only havig ONE fuel tank ain't one of them. there are indeed lighter metals and plastics that can be used in many areas of the truck. the trailers as well can use different materials. it won't be the first time i have seen a prime truck with small fuel tanks. i was told by a prime lease operator, that when ordering up a truck, a lease operator can order larger fuel tanks (at his expense of course). to me, stopping MORE OFTEN for fuel just isn't cost efficient. heck regarding weights...?? sometimes a driver's personal belongings weigh more than one would believe.
but i could care less about prime, they've been in hot water over the years for one thing or another, this is one of the reasons their real name is, "New Prime" just another 'mega-carrier" to stay away from. they ain't so 'new", in screwing drivers or lease operators........
oh yeah, it was indeed "kinda" funny you were "too tired" to operate a simple simulator......like if you crashed, you would have gotten hurt....???
heck, for "Schlitz and giggles", i have my students crash (on the simulator) their first time....it's "kinda therapeutic"...then they are ready to really do things the right way......because they know.....the sim IS KEEPING SCORES....!!! (but i throw those scores out, the crash ones that is...lol) -
Prime used to make their leasers pay for reefer fuel too! Always thought that was a little strange. Didn't know how that would work out with drivers dropping and hooking all the time. It's hard enough to get drivers to fuel up the reefers before they drop them and that's with the companies paying for fuel. Must have been a real pain in the butt!
