I went to Canada with Werner one time and that was enough. These guys did everything but a body cavity search and I'm not too sure they weren't thinking about that, either! It's OTR, Werner's dedicated runs are to like Dollar General or something. They'll have you cross at some podunk town, probably in Montana or North Dakota to avoid the crowds, which is good because it'll save you time. Get some Canadian money beforehand if you can or exchange some when you get there or you'll end up paying $10.00 for a hamburger.
Canada is nice, wide open, and a blast to drive in! Moose Jaw has a great truck stop there... -
how did you end up paying 10$ for a burger??
most places take it at least at parbulldozerbert Thanks this. -
I don't know what TS you went to in Moose Jaw? Nothing good ever came out of Moose Jaw. At least that's what I tease my wife about since she was born there. LOL
The prairies can be nice to drive through, open roads, pretty straight. They can get some terrible weather blow in though and calculate your fuel. There are not as many TS's to stop at to get fuel like in the US.
Do you know where you are going to be driving to yet up here? If so the Canuck drivers can give you some pointers on the roads and places to stop. Oh, BYW, I used to drive with a Werner driver, Our scales do not have a PrePass bypass. If the lights are on you had better go in. Or else the RCMP will be on your tail right quick out West. The Brake checks in the Rockies are MANDATORY (well 99% of them are, better to be safe than sorry), they must be stopped at and flagged in your logs. The scale cops will nail you on it if they do a level 3.
Many scales on the prairies never seem to be open, at least not when I've gone through. Northern Ontario can be a PITA if you are not used to it. Lots of hills and corners and of course BIG animals that don't show up in your headlights until it is too late.
Quebec. Well they are just a write off on their own. Those scale and QPP go after just about any out of Province plate they can find a reason for. -
ya well i told Werner i wanted regional. thats the only reason i thought they gave it to me. anyways is the any positives in the canada run. I am a new driver and i am trying to always keep a positive attitude. also do yo.u think i will get a apu since i will be going through canada -
I don't know. I got confused...

How could you NOT like a town named Moose Jaw? -
Lots of miles and uncrowded roads...
-
sounds like good money to me. so will i stay in canada or jump back and forth all the time
-
You will jump back and forth like we have to do. Or at least that is what you are supposed to do. Werner has terminals here as well so who knows what the FM will have you do.
-
its a little bit tougher driving in canada than rolling on the interstate--but it is nice for a change
and you should be able to run your 13 hrs a day --so it makes for a bit more a day--and dont forget i think you get a higher perdiem rate for canada
if you are just running up to toronto and back that would blow--but if you get to go right accross that is when it is nice--
