A little late to the party, but...
1. It sucks, but he's just going to have to learn to deal with it. When two different people from completely different backgrounds get together. there is going to be tension.
2. Backing is hard to master, but if I'm any indication it will stay with you once you learn it. I came back after 20 months of no driving and it was just as easy as it was when I left. When he does learn it, it will become a matter of pride to see how well he can back into a space.
3. If he doesn't like OTR driving, there are plenty of local driving jobs he can go for. The hours and pay will still suck, but he will get to be home every night...
Good luck!
he hates his job!

Yeah local jobs can be found in most places. I had very little experience and got a job locally driving and dump truck after my OTR time didn't work out. I got very home sick. Guess that makes me a mamas boy to some around here but I just think that makes me human.

When you say Local Job, do you mean just driving and doing nothing else?....yeah those are impossible to find. However Local job and working for it, yeah I know people, including myself who have no OTR, but aren't afraid to work, and we clear 52k a yr....just depends on your work ethic I guess

You just tell hubby, When he makes it through his training and comes home with his own truck you'll go out and play in the driveway in his truck with him. Then make sure everytime he comes home you do it again. It will give him something to look forward to!!!

Familiar story... all the hype about how great this industry is puts a smiley face on a tough job.

Have him do 6 months then make some calls to company's around the Port in Savannah.
They are looking for drivers bad, and I hear they pay fairly well.
You would probably have to think about moving closer to the port though.
I am not sure on experience they need, but so many company's down there need drivers bad enough they will allow less experience.
And that way he will be home most nights. And make more than he is with his current company. -
tell him think about all of the sights he will see along the way that he wouldnt have seen at home!! and believe me you will see it all out here!! any thing from crazy people to beautiful landmarks!
