Have you thought about driving a Dump truck or Concrete truck for the summer months? Just a thought.

Is it better to use company training or go to a private CDL school?
    Thanks

Depends who you ask. Schneider used to have a deal with their training where they paid most of it, like 2/3's or 3/4's of it, and you paid the rest. It would take 18 months. Now I don't think they offer that anymore and if you go through them for training, I think you have to pay them back in full. I could be mistaken however.

I got trained by Schneider and I think it was pretty good training. Plus, they also have drivers who actually drive truck for a living, training you, compared to people who used to drive truck, or simply have a CDL.

It's better to just go with another company unless you want your company to constantly hold your hand and only be concerned with them. Been their 6 months and their incompetence is not only getting on my last nerve but it will also cost you time and money. They get a weekly paycheck, do you think they really care how many different locations you have to bobtail to find an empty without pay because it's within a 25 mile radius?................they've forgot about the driver as soon as you've hung the phone up! Bet on it.

My husband is fixing to switch to schneider as a regional company driver. The company he is curently with he is a lease opperator and they nickel and dime him for every penny they can. There are some weeks he doesn't see a check because of lack of miles.
We have heard good things about schneider and any information would be appreciated!!!!!! We trying to research this company as much possible!!!!!

Your description of the company your husband is with has an uncanny resemblance to C.R. England.

OR...you can actually say no to them on the phone and be assertive. I've done that with them numerous times as far as working with SEM. I've told them that I won't go to X, Y or Z and will only go to such and such place. I told them what town I will be in, and at what time. The search for empty trailers CAN be a problem, but its not a continuous thing that you deal with on a daily basis. Plus its a problem they are trying to sort out. Along with that, if you can't find a certain empty trailer, you can tell them what empty trailers you DID find and they will set you up with one of those instead. Or you can just continue to fall asleep during trainings where they tell you such things. :biggrin_25526:

Look Ziggy i'm not sure if you have your schnieder earplugs in but put your pom poms down and remove them. I was'nt sleeping during orientation, Looking for empties in the north east is a regular problem because the company wants to take more drivers up there because the frieght leaving the northeast Pays them a better price . Add to that they hire a bunch of fresh out of college but can't find a job in their major kids who really could'nt care How long you look for an empty because if your driving WITHIN 25 mile radius they don't have and won't pay you those miles, read your pay manual pal. I drove one day for 6.5 hours around fregin newark NJ looking for and empty to get another load, sent me to five different locations (3 of which WERE CLOSED) and got paid a grand total of $1.64 ! So bring your pom poms to the company picnic pal , I know what their doing , and drivers should get paid for every revolution that the wheel turns period.

Ziggy is right! I have my own frustrations with this company but I have been here for 3+ years and don't see myself going anywhere else anytime soon. Stick up for what you believe is right and don't be a push over. Do not be afraid to say NO. Don't be rude but be assertive. It's amazing how much you can get when you're professional with your DBL. As for trailer searches, I'm a CDN driver so we don't move MT trailers around in the US as it is against your immigration laws for us to do so, but in Canada if we're sent on a trailer search we get paid for every customer we go to after the first initial one that cannot or will not give us an empty. The 25 mile radius is complete BS if you ask me and you should be questioning that. The only thing they won't budge on is if you are in Chicago and they send you to another customer in Chicago then it's 0 paid miles even though it might take you 3 - 4 hours.
