Hey we have a semi tractor we'd like to lease out for a year , just wondering if it is a good thing to do ? i mean someone has your truck in another state maybe .. might be hard to recoup it .. just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or info about doing it safely.

just letting you know you can place a gps tracking locator somewhere on the truck to recoup if it were to be abandoned.

Personally,I say sell it outright for cash only private sale,no warranty, you will have that money in your hand, private deals too often make enemies and someone gets screwed out of a truck or your money, there are too many ifs to go wrong trying to lease it. If it blows up,the leaser isn't going to be able to fix it,you are stuck with a tow job, repair and right back to zero again,or an accident holding you to a lawsuit by some smart lawyer, there are many things to consider. Good luck at whatever you do.

We wont sell it as we are sending it out of the country after a year as a gift. we arent too worried about it blowing up .. its a new engine.
as for the driver , he'd have to have it insured in case of accident.
yes we will have an attorney do the lease to be covered.

Have you thought about just leasing it to a good Carrier and sticking a driver in it for the time being? Or until you GIVE it away....
I would tell the driver your PLAN, so you dont hurt him when it's time to part with the truck.
The company you lease your truck to, can help cover your expenses and and get you fuel, plate, and insurance discounts.
Just a thought....
All the best,

I guess the security I have with my two drivers are few and FAR apart from real world issues. My trucks I do require to be parked in the yard here at the end of the business day. I myself have checked the fluids and I can be safe to say my drivers are ( respectful ) to the trucks..... Im blessed....
My 2 cents,

Ya Matt we'd like to lease it to a Carrier , we have contacted many .. no one wants to do a deal yet. Actually i think the Carrier route is a better way , then to have someone you really dont know out working it as Joethemechanic stated. And yes we would be very up front in telling any driver or company it was only for a year.
One company did want to lease it , but came in too low at $22 a day. looking for a bit more than that. Its like a new truck.
