Hi, I am planning to get married in June next year, and my wife wants to be a long haul trucker with me for the first years of our marriage. She wont drive, but just be a passenger. I am planning to go to truck driving school soon, and start looking for jobs. My question is this; will many (or any) reputable companies let a new driver take his new wife on the road with him as a passenger? We are planning to drive long haul for a few years then move to the Reno area and find a local driving job. Does this sound plausible? thanks for any help you can give me.

Each company has different policies so you will need to ask them about it

Quite a few companies have rider programs, but most of them usually have a limit on how long a rider can be with. You also might have to pay some extra insurance. I remember if there is usually a waiting period or not from the time you start before you can take someone with you.

You are only allowed a rider during the summer months and at most companies there is an age limit. Usually around 10-12 years old. Your wife is most likely older than that! Why just ride around and fight and argue for nothing? Get your wife her license the same time you do. You guys can really make killer money running as a team. Husband/wife teams are treated like gold in the truck industry. My wife and I teamed together for 7 years and made a lot of money. We are retired from trucking and made enough money to buy a horse training facility. We also had a great time trucking. Made lots of good memories.
