As of this moment, I have spent 24 hrs at the Covenant Orientation and Traing Center in Chattanooga, TN and I want to share my first impressions.... Please try to consider the company that operates this facility, as they play an important role in the trucking industry. Like tax return anticipation loan centers, buy here pay here car lots, plasma donation depositorys, and temporary employment agencies. I have not been here long enough for me to pinpoint the corporate culture value system, though, thus far it doesnt appear as diabolical as some might have you believe, time will tell. Now to the topic... Hotel Covenant.
I could immediately decipher that this is not a hotel that is run by a national hotel chain. The little things stand out, as you anticipate a hotel, only to find your at a dormitory. The landscape is kept up, but not "manicured". The exterior of the building is plain, but has a good coat of paint that matches on all sides. The parking lots are well lit, and are in decent condition.
The lobby was not well lit, however it wasnt dark, but someone is watching the light bill kinda dark. It was clean, and the clerk was cleaning the front door glass when we showed up. The dining room is acceptable for a dormitory setting, but the decorating is sparse. The food allows a lot to be desired, but there is a salad available for lunch and dinner, its not a gourmet salad, but it works and its big and healthy. Covenant is picking up the tab for the grub, so I wont complain.
Our room appears clean, it has new carpet and the beds are comfy, to me at least. The wife isnt wild about the beds. Shower pressure is good, but the toilet seat is a small round one on an oval toilet. Cable TV is not here, but there are 7 or 8 good channels, and we watched football on sunday. Our room is close enough to the driver lounge to pick up the WiFi signal, but that is no guarentee to have it in your room, it is available in the lounge.
Whomever is the manager for Covenant that is in charge of this facility has his hands full and likely has a tight budget with a boss to answer to. Having said that, and taking the company into consideration, it could be a lot worse.
I give the facility 2.8 stars out of 4. I have no major complaints.

Last night we went to the Grand Ole Covenant Opry. Its a music band, one member works for Covenant, that plays here every Tuesday evening at 7 pm for the last 15 years. They played some rock, country, blues and a couple of gospel songs; told some jokes and had some fun.
For a house band, they rocked. Vocals were on the shakey side, but they never claimed they were good. They were. I think their heart is in blues music because they kicked assets when playing the blues.
I still havent found much to complain about here at the dormitory. I read a thread about the Prime orientation and this would be the other end of the spectrum, But I guess there is more profit in leasing trucks to drivers so they get a propaganda filled orientation, whereas here the experience is more in tune with reality here at Covenant. Not picking on Prime, Im sure they are a fine company and Im sure lots would say better than Covenant. -
Maybe you're more suited for lodging reviews for some travel magazines instead of trucking
-
I wish. LOL
I just wanted to share a little about the place, in the case some one wanted to know, they could use the search....
Gears Thanks this. -
Well, its saturday night here at Hotel Covenant, and all is quiet. We borrowed the vaccuum cleaner from the front desk, traded our sheets for new ones and did some housekeeping. This IS a dormitory and as such, it requires your participation to keep your area clean and tidy....
The dining room is closed on the weekends, so we got free meal tickets to the Waffle House across the street. Not bad, and saving a few bucks is always nice. -
It's cool they at least keep you fed when the dining is closed
That's a plus ( saving $$)
Keep us updated I enjoy reading your thread -
Did you both eat six meals in two days at the same Waffle House?
-
Yes they give each person 3 meals a day. If I remember correctly its like $5 for breakfast $7 for lunch and $9 for dinner.
-
correct. it passes as food, but by this morning we were glad that was the last meal at WH, the dining room opened at lunch today...
