belly tarps were for keeping heat in--and they work great--very messy to work on tho asit keeps every little drip inside the tarp--a lot of these trucks ran up to alaska and the territories and on the ice roads--its definately not neccessary --but it sure helps on those few really cold days when the truck wont stay warm

I ran out in AB a few times when it was below -30*, vapor trails back past the end of the trailer, heater running full blast and toes still freezing!! Those plastic coil air lines are crap in that cold, blew two of them. Replaced them with rubber as soon as I got home!!

Sounds like you could save 225 if you do it yourself. From the sounds of what you've done so far you could do it.

I wouldn't think you'd need it at all running down the highway, maybe if it was extremely cold and you were idling to sleep.

Just for clamps and hoses, to the sleeper, I assume? Is that KW's price? Check at NAPA. My T-8 is a 1998, far as I know they are originals, not leaking yet, but I hear the clock ticking. Know what you mean about replacing stuff when you decide to, not when the truck decides to, but I'd worry about the other stuff first, then work your way down to preventative repairs. Does yours have shutoff valves? Mine doesn't.
