I take adderall and I don't tell anybody about it. I've never come up positive on a physical, stopping for a few days before scheduled exams, and flushing before a sneak piss test where you have 24 hours to report. Fortunately, I have never been in an accident where I had to take a piss test afterwards.
If you have ADHD and take adderall, you can legally drive, but there are some extra steps to take, providing you company wants to bother with it. Typically, the big guys don't want too because they have drivers coming and going all the time and it's not worth the hassle to them.
Someone ADHD being treated with adderall has to get a yearly physical. Also, if it's your first physical for a new company, the doctor is going to want a mental eval and prescribing physician eval before certifying.
these two articles from the fmsca explain:
I go with Don't ask Don't tell myself, it's easier to find a job that way. And ussually smaller companies and/or moving companies (good place for a new driver to start) will deal with an otherwise qualified person and the extra hoops.

I remember there was a guy I was in training with that had adhd. He had issues staying still in the orientation. He didn't take the medication. In my glorified opinion, if you are not taking the medication, than why mention it.

I don't know. Which kind of trucks are afflicted with ADHD?

A driver needs to pay attention to the road. Attention deficit is not something that a driver needs in order to stay alive and keep from plowing down people on the road.

I have a form of ADHD and take medicine for it. In addition to my DOT long form, I carry a release stating I can safely drive a CMV without any restrictions on my medication.

I was diagnosed with it a long time ago. I was supposed to take ritalin for it but I didn't like it and refused after about a month. Finding out later that it was cocaine in pill form, I'm glad I did.
I can't focus on one thing for long but I can focus on many things at once for, well, all day long. Fits in with driving pretty well, I think. -
It's not cocaine in pill form. It's a Methylphenidate which on a urinalysis comes up as part of the amphetamine family. However, it's affects are similar to cocaine when abused. Adderall or ritalin, taken as prescribed does not get you high, and you adjust to it within a couple of days and don't even feel anything from it.

Not everyone reacts the same way to medications. My husband is a prime example, just with things like over the counter cold meds.
