Saw an interesting local job and was starting to get a reply sent. But then saw something about a 1099.
I'm not a business owner or CPA so I had to Google what that even was. It sounds like all the crappy paperwork and tax withholding companies do for their employees I would have to do myself. And if I'm every audited it better be done right or I'm royally screwed.
Is it even worth touching something like this? It sounds like a headache.

If the pay is worth it, find a good accountant that will help you with the records you need to keep, file the necessary tax forms, and keep your headaches to a minimum. An accountant can help you get all your ducks in a row. Just don't go to someplace like H&R Block. Go to a real accountant!

I would make darn sure that you would not actually be an employee in the eyes of the government/IRS and the folks with the ad are saying 1099 to avoid their financial responsibilities.
Lilbit Thanks this. -
Sounds like a mess. I dislike processing my Transflow as it is let alone being responsible for my own taxes and insurance.

It's not that bad! Once you get started. Use to run my own business years ago. Had an accountant do the end of year taxes, and I did the stuff in between. He gave me a good understanding of what I needed to keep track of, how to keep track of it, and gave me a good start.

this is a lousy way to get paid, IMHO....i worked for 2 o/o's that paid this way, and YES you have to set aside the money to pay your own taxes and such. but that can be difficult when you see more cash in your hand. you will have to discipline yourself right from the very begining. then too, as mentioned a good REAL CPA will work things out for you were you can pay taxes on a quarterly basis. you will have to think this over, as since you would be paid on a 1099, this would most likely mean the job you are looking into does not pay health benefits. to me, that's a big deal breaker.
do as you wish, but being paid on a 1099is a giant PITA.....and i simply will not ever want to do it again myself..... -
Yeah the driver has to figure out the health insurance stuff to.

What exactly is the type of the job?
Truck driving?
Employee versus independent contractor is tied to what the person has at risk and who controls the worker.
