Trk got deadlined for a DOT issue. Have a small hole in the exhaust, up under the cab. No, I didn't catch it. Have been on top of the water pump tho and it finally started to puddle so getting that replaced also. Was given a loaner trk to pick up a load going home with but the tlr I'm trying to pick up has brake issues. Like no brakes. Tried pumping it down to see if they would self adjust but no joy. Waiting on rd assist now. Looks like I'm going to be a day late going home.........again.

Normally a 5/8 will do it.
Push down the ring around the adjuster and put the wrench on.
Tighten all the way and back off 1/4 a turn.
And you are on your way.

If I went down there I would start a company, I know I can get the capital together any time I need. Just have to make a call.
I may buy one truck eventually where I am, but still undecided.

Load out got changed to Chicago, but I got lazy. Tired of all nighters. So I stopped early and will run it in the morning.
Was going to end up sitting in Columbus by the end of the day anyway, now I will just get there early Friday. Due for service.

Fun to dream. Had not heard of the expansion of the Canal, but heard that the Chinese were involved in operations. What is happening in SC? Is this Charleston, or elsewhere?
    Thank you.

Would have adjusted the brakes but for 2 reasons, first and most important, is I've never been shown how and would really hate to screw up and be the cause of a wreck. 2 is the the company doesn't like you doing things like that for the above reason.
Finally made it to Ocheleta. Seems they've opened up a casino, just a mile south of here, with lots of truck parking. Sure looks better than the dirt lot across the street.

Mechanics at Motor West show you how adjust the brakes, guess they don't want to waste money on OTRM.

So when you gonna be home Pan?

adjust your own brakes is cheaper then a service call. gets you on the road faster also. not to mention D.O.T. putting you out of service if those adjusters swing more then 2 inches.

correct me if i'm wrong but isn't brakes and adjusters part of the pretrip? specially with a trailer you've never hauled and know nothing about. :)

very easy to adjust. impossible to screw up. if things go wrong, adjusters were already screwed up.

CD explained the procedure. although sometimes the rings are hard to push in. so i put the wrench on the nut. and use a hammer on the wrench to push the ring in. then adjust the nut. (((use the closed end of wrench and not the open end. that'll round out the nut))).

i'm a retired mechanic. so i'm picky when it comes to brakes. i know how i like my brakes. and i'm the one that has to drive the thing. not the mechanics. specially those mechanics that haven't been in the business very long.

some of us know all too well how brakes never get adjusted. 90 percent of drivers just don't care. untill they're in an accident and no longer have a job becuase there brakes didn't work.

Jess, YEA, I am finally at the house!!!! Wonder if I'll get into any trouble since I blew of that last fuel stop. No way I could have made it home and even LOOK legal if I had!!! :biggrin_25521: :biggrin_25522: Hey Jess, going to use some of this alone time to start studying up on your CDL?

So some more on brakes. How do you tell if there the self adjusting type or not? From what I understand, its a no no to manually adjust them.

I do appreciate Snowwy and CD here. Lots of stuff that I wasn't taught and with a 3 month wonder as a trainer............ Sure wish I could have had some of ya'll instead.

they are going to be putting in another port across the river from savannah in bluffton sc. so both sides of the river will now be a port. twice the freight coming in and the georgia port is up 16% over what it did last year. they are widening the panama canal now to fit the new super ships thru these things are monsters biggest freighters ever built. also they are starting to deepen the savanah river to get these ships in
