There will be carriers who simply can't afford to comply with these fines and requirements and will close the doors.....the poo poo has begun hitting the fan.

This is why I try to advise drivers to check the safety rating of a company, before working for them.

YES, it does affect YOU !!!!!

Once more it's time to get out the calculator! An $87,000 fine spread over a fleet of 700 trucks is only about $117 per truck. There is no way that they could purchase and maintain an EOBR for this amount, let alone the loss of productivity vs. how they want to run!
It will be very interesting to see what they do, and if they pay the fine what Big Brother DaHood says afterward.

Do you think if they chose the fine, even though from a business decision it would be smarter, that they would have a microscope kept on them?...

If they just pay the fine is that the end of the matter? I doubt it because CSA2010 will get them to comply. The rules are changing.............

If they pay the fine, they would be on the "radar", and might get pulled into scales more often to be checked out, and perhaps even be audited again, but wouldn't that be less invasive than all trucks being monitored 100%?

I was very surprised that the payment of a fine was even an option, and am guessing that the safety Nazi CRASH types will have a fit about a company "buying" their way out of EOBR that the groups were promised to be placed on poor performers.
