So I am not sure exactly what the regulations are, but do you guys keep anything to protect yourselves from people that would try and rob you or what not? Perhaps I watch too much tv or something, I always see shows where truckers get robbed.

Never thought about that as a defense. I reckon if you stink bad enough no one will mess with you.....:biggrin_25523:

I only carry about $25 cash when I am driving...just enough for a couple of meals...use a credit card for anything else...most truckers couldn't make change for a $20 bill, as they don't carry that much cash.

Some guys carry a Tire Thumper, which is described in this ad....This high quality Tire Thumper is made here in the USA. It is made like an old-style police billy club. It is crafted out of a solid piece of cedar that is turned on a wood lathe to give it the proper contours down the body. The large end of the unit has a hole drilled and is filled with lead to add extra weight for a greater impact. The handle has 8 finger-grooves burned into it for a solid grip. There is a lanyard hole drilled through the handle area with a thick leather lanyard tied through it. The Tire Thumper is finished with a light gloss coating on it to protect the wood. It is very compact too. It is only 19" long and about 2" in diameter at the largest point of the body so it won't take up much room.

I am an average guy and I do not carry anything for self defense...I guess with a 30,000 to 75,000 lb truck, I have not considered the need for anything....As long as my truck does not break down, I feel pretty secure sitting in the drivers seat. I do lock the doors if I am in the sleeper at a truck stop or rest stop.:biggrin_2558:

All I have in my truck a far as a weapon is a tire thumper and some various tools that could be used as a weapon if need be. I don't foresee ever needing a weapon though. I'd be inclined to protect my personal property, but if they want the truck that bad, take it. I'm a company driver so it ain't my truck anyway!

well yea tire thumper it is...though i do carry a small pepper spray on my key chain..i drive with my husband, and over the years we have found that rest areas r not a good place to stop, to use restrooms, even truckers need to relieve them selves...lol now we don't have to worry about that so much as most states have closed rest areas...

SO TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION WE R ON OUR OWN:biggrin_255:

I always had my 38 with me, when I drove for Swift. It was against company policy, but what they didn't know, didn't hurt them.
