Clarify please. Are they loaded across, lenghtways or standing on end???

 

THe right way to do it is putting 2 chains thru each coil. If the coils are shotgun you can cross them, if they are suicide you can't. If the coils are shotgun you also have to put a strap over them.

 

A side question I've been curious about for a while and since we have some skateboarders' attention, here goes:

I see some flatbeds with straps straight across and others with a twist in the strap. What's the purpose for the twist? Doesn't it put more stress on the edges and thus decrease the load capacity?

If they are twisted its usually cause someone was to lazy to straighten them out or they couldn't. If your talking at an angle, like I see some guys do with suicide coils, they are usually pointless and most likely gonna ruin a strap.

 

2 4800# chains will do the job. IIRC, you have to secure half the weight? I might be wrong but either way if them coils are loaded shotgun he's gonna have to put a strap on them so that would make up the difference.

 

I'm not even a flatbedwetter and know that one. Twisted straps keep them from singing going down the road.
