If any of you folks are EX-Military , and use direct deposit, USAA federal savings bank will Reimburse your ATM fees (up to like $30 a month) and NOT charge you a penny to make a withdrawal!!
At one time USAA was limited to officers, but this is no longer the case....\
Great credit cards..Prime rate + a few %, currently about 13%, no annual fee, and good car Insurance....I also use them for my morgagte.
They also let you scan a check, or take a photo of a check with a phone, and this is the deposit...then toss the paper check!!
Best of all, it is owned 100% by the members...not some huge corporation...they are usually rated at a BEST in most/all service categories, and usually one of the best for pricing...and they PAID me a check last year...the redistribute their profits back to the account holders on a regular basis!!
If you are eligible, sign up!!

Ahhhhh, remember the days when the ATM 1st came out and it was free? All the banks were jumping on it and there were a lot of articles about how it "saved" them money in employee costs? Now, its just another way for them AND the 3rd party that actually installs and maintains the machines, to make money. I absolutely HATE the thought of having to pay to access MY money!!!!
Sorry bout the rant ya'll! -
I don't know about all areas, but 7-11, and all Transfund ATM's in Oklahoma are no surcharge, also if you belong to a credit union (does not apply to Navy fed or a few others) you can usually find a CUSC (Credit Union Service Center) that will allow you to bank as though your at your home credit union, this service is provided either at a dedicated CUSC or some credit unions do the service as well. There is a fee for using a CUSC, but I don't know what it is, but proabley less then ATM's and safer then carrying 3k in the truck.

My rule of thumb - if I have to use the no-armed-bandit, I'll take out at least $100. The fees have ranged from $2.50 - $4.00 depending on the place. So that is an easy translation into a percentage rate. Taking out anything less is insane. Here's another trick that I've learned: I started shopping at Wal-Mart because there is usually something I need any time I'm near one and many have truck parking - buy something and pay for it as a debit transaction and you can get additional money back.

How much cash can one get back at a WalMart or other chain - I would assume it is not more than a hundred or two, no?

Then access your money through an ATM operated by your bank.

ATM fees are totally reasonable I think. The transaction fee you pay funds the amount it costs to install and maintain the machine, and perhaps the fees that the banks charge to allow the ATM access to its accounts. (I have no idea how third party ATMs work / with what sort of transaction processing system). They're put in places where people stereotypically haven't planned on needing cash, or are desperate for it - what do you think the fees are on ATMs in strip clubs?Tazz Thanks this. -
I'm not comfortable discussing my financial transactions on the internet.
Rural mom n pop places usually charge less than chain establishments or those in cities.Texas-Nana Thanks this. -
They charge just as much as people are willing to pay
