You could have had that experience, but you conveniently missed the bus. Seriously.... and I'm not trying to be mean here... you keep poking your toe into the water to see if the water is too cold or too hot. If it's not exactly 68.365 degrees, you WILL NOT commit to jumping into the pool. That "missing the bus" nonsense is a huge GLARING display of your unwillingness to commit to being inconvenienced in any way in this type of business.

Look, it's dirty, it's nasty, it's very inconvenient. You will miss home, you will miss friends and family, you will miss birthdays (including your own), you will miss a home cooked meal or ANYthing that is hot and not fast food. You will definitely miss not having your own commode to plant your kiester on without hearing the grunts and smelling stench of the drivers in the stall next to you. You'll find yourself staring out of the window at..... nothing after having just driven over 650 miles some day in order to stay on schedule.

In my former life, as a mid-level exec corporate puke, I have had some potential applicants somehow not make it to an interview, or "forget" to return phone calls to confirm an interview. They did not get a second chance. If you think for one minute that Central, or any OTHER carrier is going to play that game with you and call you up to BEG you to get on that bus and coddle you before, during, and after orientation, you are sadly mistaken. (I got $20 that says you didn't even pack a bag, you had no intention of getting on the bus)

My belief (and I truly hope I am wrong about this, if I am, I apologize) is that you are way too soft for this business. You bruise too easily and wont last more than a week on a truck with a trainer.

PLEASE... do yourself a favor, do the carriers a favor, do NOT apply to another carrier until you are absolutely sure you can and WILL commit to making a run at it. If you can get out there, go solo, make several deliveries, get 30,000 - 60,000 miles on your belt and then decide it's not for you, you have at least given it a chance. Right now, I dont think you are ready.

1Bad, I think both you and Jarhed have pretty much summed up the entire scenario in a nutshell. Trucking is definately not for everyone. It is dirty harsh environment at times, underappreciated, overworked, underpaid, overstressed at times, late, early, bad weather inconveinienced job, and thats just monday!!

This is something I've never agreed with. Yes, it's a tool. Yes, it can give you a great deal of time sensitive, important information.

    But -

95% of the truckers out there use it as a personal soapbox. Just listen in any traffic jam, things will be going great until someone brings up Obama. If I have my cb on, I want to know what's going on, not whether you love or hate Obama, politics in general, religion, etc.
I don't want to hear you playing whatever music you think is cool.
I don't want to hear some long rambling story about the last traffic jam you were in.
I don't want to hear you ##### about the traffic.
Or the 4 wheeler that cut you off.
Or the driver with his phone stuck to his ear.
Or how you want to do that hot blonde in the convertible.
And I don't want to ask a question over the cb and have the only driver willing to respond spending his time telling me how he wants to get me pregnant.

And, my co-driver, who's trying to sleep, through stop and go traffic, really doesn't appreciate your over inflated self importance.

Keep in mind this is the general you, not you specifically. I keep my cb on when traffic or the weather warrants it, but the rest of the time, it's off to save myself a headache. And while there might be that one time I sorely wish I'd had it on to save me the trouble, it hasn't happened yet.

I'm supose to be leaving out in January maybe sooner for Utah and was wondering what is involved in the work well? Is that the same thing as the wellness test? Was told since I already have a Class A all I need was a refresher and go from their, but some wheres I saw something about a 50 lb and 75 lb lift. Any help would be apperciated

Work Well is simple. Its 25lb from the floor to waist 3 times. 50 from floor to waist 3 times. 75 lbs from floor to waist 3 times. 25lbs from waist to above head 3 times. 50lbs from waist to above head 3 times. 50lbs from waist around the room 3 times and 75lbs from waist arind room 3 times. Then its climb from floor to 3rd step 5 times. push 100lbs and pull 100lbs. I am a 5'8 140lb woman and I did it with no problem. I had to use my head to get the 50lbs up above my head the first time up then I dropped to my knee and back up from my knee to the shelf. it wasn't that bad.
