Things have been kind of crazy the last few months for me and my family. we moved to NC so my wife could be closer to some of her family and things did not work out the way we had hoped. I left my job that I had in IN that had me home every week because you had to live close to the terminal. I took a job back OTR that had me gone for 3-4 weeks at a time. That has been extremely hard for my wife and kids and me as well. On top of that other things just didn't pan out the way we had hoped so we decided to move back home to IN.

Since being back here I have been looking for a job to be home at least every week. Yesterday I got 2 job offers.

Company 1. is for a company i used to drive for and would be running basically from Indiana back and forth to the east coast 75% of the time. I'm not crazy about doing that because I did it for several years when I first started driving but it would pay the bills and I'd be home every weekend.

Company 2. is for a company that runs only OH, IN, MI, KY, IL, WI, IA, MO and would have me home every weekend and through the house maybe 1 -2 times during the week.

With either company I should make about the same money so my 1st choice is company 2. The problem is company 2 has a very high safestat score and company 1 has a very good safestat score. What else should I be using to decide on this? Need some of you experienced drivers to give me your input. What would you do or how would you decide which choice to make?

I would go with company #2. There csa 2010 scores will have to improve. Just keep your own sheet together. Now, if they run crappy equipment and expect you to cheat on the logs, then I would go to company #1. note= csa 2010 replaces safestat.

Can you talk with some drivers from company #2 before making your decision? I think that you would get a better feel for what they are about by talking to their drivers.

Yeah I know the csa is going to change the scores and replace safestat. My thinking is that if they were this bad under safestat though that they probably aren't going to improve much under csa 2010. It seems that there biggest problem on safestat scores were driver failures which I'm not worried about cause I try to keep my #### straight as can be.

The other thing is they did mention that within 6 months they are going completely paperless on logs with peoplenet systems. As far as there equipment I don't really know. I have tried talking talking to a few of there drivers but usually can't get much response from them.I know a guy who is a friend of a friend who is an O/O leased to them and have been trying to get a hold of him to ask some questions but have not had any luck getting in touch with him.

Study why the SafeStat is so low and see if it's something you can change. If it's a bunch log book violations then there you go. You can get a good idea on how the company treats the equipment and drivers from those scores. So you might have a good selection right there.

Ok with some help from a member here at this site ( you know who you are thank you very much ) :biggrin_25514: I was able to find out more about the company #2 and why there safety rating is so high. It seems mainly it is because of speeding tickets and driver logbook violations. So I feel alot better about them now because I don't really speed and always keep my book in order the best I can.

I drive for one of those companies with a ###### SafeStat score. The DOT was just in a there little while ago kicking butt over log books.

Like you, I keep all my ducks in a row, but it can be a giant pain in the butt when you drive a truck with a bulls-eye on the door... Guaranteed round trip ticket behind the scale.
