Ruff if you are talking to me, yes WIA paid for both heavy equipment course and Class A upgrade course. I did heavy equipment first then went on to Class A upgrade had my Class B for over 14 yrs before I was laid off...
If WIA didn't pay for my heavy equipment course I personally won't have paid for the class not enough class hrs to get a job anywhere
the school does offer two job fairs a year and they also send out invites even after you graduate they just had one a few weeks ago
they are accredit so company do look at their students especially Valley Transport, Werner -
What is WIA??? Excuse me for sounding uninformed..

So, did you ever get to use the heavy equipment training?? The option 2 with heavy equipment was the 1st class I looked at but then I changed to the option 1 with bus, straight, and dump truck.
Just wondered if anyone got into heavy equipment through GLTDS...

WIA is a federal Workforce Investment Act ( a grant ) you don't have to pay back, I was able to get it because I was laid-off and couldn't find another Class B job so I up-graded to class A.
There was no funding for my county in Ohio but you can go to any county that had funding money left since it's a federal program -
yes i was at the last one never heard of rhoel but i was impressed. -
GLTDS is a good school. The owner is the SISTER of the owner of Hamrick. There are a lot of companies that will hire out of there. I just graduated early December. Took the 215 hour course, CDL A and passenger bus.

That is the school I wanted to attend cause I was so impressed with them, but they were not on the accredited list and I was forced to attend Hamrick's..

Just graduated from Great Lakes. The absolute best!!! The instructors will see to it that you are ready to pass the CDL test or you won't get scheduled for the test without a few more days of practice. Their job placement service is excellent. You should have no excuse to graduate without a job from here. As for funding, I couldn't afford it or qualify for the grants either. I found a way to save for it and pay for it. My new job has tuition reimbursement. I had 5 pre-hires and just had to do the research to pick the company that I wanted to work for. You'll have recruiters coming in, but remember....they're salesmen. You have to do the research and make your decisions. At GLTDS, you'll train and learn on 48 and 53 foot trailers...not 28's. You need to take your test and be able to alley dock a 53 footer for your employer. But all in all...GLTDS will by far give you the best training to enter the workforce.
Tavonte Battles and Drac1985 Thank this. -
Not trying to bash anyone but I am curious about how do you determine the are the best when you have never been to another school?
-
Well, I would say it's based by how many drivers pass the CDL test first time. GLTDS places a lot of drivers and is always there to help their grads. They are much better than many other CDL mills. IMO
