I'm getting started again as an owner operator but will be running (in FLA) under my own DOT#s. I will be a sole proprietor. I will be the driver, no employees. I will have one truck running intrastate only. I will be pulling the customer's trailers not mine. My question is; when I register for my DOT #s do I need to use my own name or can I use a company name? I was wanting a different name on the truck instead of "John Doe Trucking". I hope I made some sense.

Also, if anyone knows where I could get some good information on getting started as a sole proprietor, running just intrastate, would be appreciated.

    Over and out,

Most states have laws and regulations concerning this. In my state it is known as operating under an assumed name.

It is nothing more than registering it and then publishing it in the paper.
