Where to Leave the Truck for Home Time

When i drove for werner I parked at wall-mart with no problem ifu drop ur trailer get an enforcer king pin lock. A driver put one on an empty at the atl terminal and it took the shop 2 days to get it off. They had to cut it with torches....

 

I live about 10 minutes from the Indiana Toll Rd (I80/90) Years ago, when I took the rig home, I would park the trailer in a lot by the toll booth, where about 10-12 other trailers were parked, and then bobtail home. Never any problems, but it was a flatbed, usually with shingles or bagged cement on it.
Before that, I parked at the Speedway TS up the road a bit, until someone backed into the new trailer I left there one night.
Whichever company you go with will have a policy.

I have a good idea for you, my friend:

During your daily errands, look around at the places you shop. For example, if you shop at a mom and pop hardware store ask the owner, "If I were to drive a truck, could I park it around back a few days per month on my hometime?"

You will probably notice that the places you shop will often have a place you could park.

 

I've already asked a local, small trucking company owner if I can park in his lot - if I get hooked up with a freight company. This lot is well lit, in a high traffic, low crime area and is within walking distance from my house. And now to find that freight job.

 

Aint that what they call a truck stop? Just bustin ya. I couldn't let it go.

 

Well some shopping centers like wal mart will let you if you talk to the manager. Others wont and have signes saying no trucks or no over night parking. Some truck stops might let you leave it their but most wont let you leave an unattended truck their. You tacking up a space that a paying customer should be able to use. Never gut leave the truck anywhere with out permission! I will be towed at your expence and you will most likely be fired for this. I would never leave it at a truck stop unattended. If some one hits it and you aint their who's falt is it? The company will make it yours! You can count on that!
Before I had a drive way big enough for a truck I got permission from a local factory that had their own trucks to park in their lot and I also use to use the local highway dept. Its something you should take care of before you ever start you job and check in with the person that gave you permission once in a while. Try to find some place where you leave every thing hook together for securiety reasons. Trailers are stolen every day and this will also most likely get you fired. Companies like to make eyery thing the driver falt!

 

Something to think about when dropping a trailer or a rig someplace. The average value of your load is around $100,000 plus. Think about what a thief would be willing to do to score that. Think what he'd do to maybe score on 2 or 3 trailers a night? Trailer thefts are usually an organized outfit. Your "locks' mean nothing to them. They'll haul it away and cut the doors or walls off to get the goods. Heard of one outfit had 2 Heavy Wreckers and was taking 50 or 60 complete rigs a year. Who pays much attention to a legit looking wrecker hooking up?

Ever thought about what you'd do if you come back and your trailer/rig is gone? Guess who cops are gonna look at first? Think you'll still have a trucking career?
