This question is to you experienced, "old guard" drivers:

Pulling out your crystal balls, what -in the next 5, next 10 years- do you see as the state of truck driving both as an occupation and the trucking industry in general? What do you believe todays new or little experienced drivers must do (if anything) to make positive changes in the industry?

In a few years everything will be different as we know it Today.. Some things well be harder like Insurance, Health, time driven and so on... I have read on here about how the Government is doing this and doing that.. It's just time till things get so bad that I will have to Never had a ticket in Your life of driven to be a trucker.

Now I may be wrong and I hope I am, But this is how I see it going.. I also see schooling be way longer then a few weeks more like Months and hundreds of miles before You get Your paper saying Your a driver.. Again I hope I'm wrong...

    More regulations......

The new HOS Rules come out at the end of this month.....

Many believe that the FMCSA caved to the special interest groups to cut our HOS down to the French model of 8 hours total....driving and duty time....
Possibly even removing pay by the mile and mandating hourly pay....Which for O/O's won't mean dookie....

No, they are still in the proposed status and you will not see much on them until they are released for public comment.

The new rules have been the subject of discussion for months on Trucking shows and in the pubs.....
Nobody except the insiders know what, if any rule changes there are.....

I know from listening to the various shows that Public Citizen and PATT have been lobbying to limit the HOS that a driver can work.....

We all know what the public "wants"....."No trucks" period.....

You'd be surprised to hear how many people think that rail is replacing all aspects of truck transportation....

I always ask them if they prefer to have a set of rails running by their houses or would a truck that shows up on occasion be better.....:biggrin_25523:
