frankly i won't really care, because i hope to be retired in 10 years (maybe sooner). the reason(s) why i won't really care is because of the attitude of drivers now and from the past.
the attitude of "all for me and screw you"....
the attitude of, "i ain't got the time to write my congressman or senator and tell him the real truth about trucking"...
the attitude of talking on the cb radio or at the truck stops and "talking shiot about what OUGHT TO BE DONE, but NOT get involved beyond the talking with others".
the attitude of some of the idiots on the boards now that think "smoking a little weed on his days off are ok, and he should be allowed to do this, but when he fails a random, he comes here and cries about it"..
i can't wait to retire and turn in my CDL for an "ordinary driver's license" and NOT have to submit to a DOT physical, hazmat test, finger printing, back ground checks and a host of other udder non-sense that NO OTHER industry has to go through..
i got more to say but suffice it to continue, you pretty much get the idea.
trucking stinks, trucking sucks, trucking blows..
and as i have said one too many times, WE ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN, as WE NEVER TOOK STEPS TO CLEAN IT UP, AND KEEP GOVERNMENT AND LOBBYISTS OUT....!!!

I think trucking will be around forever since there is nothing that can really replace it, right? But, I do think it will be more and more regulated by the Feds/States. The churning of drivers will continue unless the companies pay more. And for that to happen, the shippers need to pay more. But, that won't happen because the trucking companies are afraid to demand more.

Due to the crumbling infrastructure, most freight will be moved by rail.

What would increase rates would be a process of elimination in both deficient carriers and unqualified drivers.....
How about banning all pre-emissions vehicles unless they can pass a national PSIP ?.......
How about banning drivers who can't read, write, or speak English at a level at least that of a 10th grade student?
How about mandatory EOBR's?........Many drivers have said if that becomes reality...they would walk away......
A ban on all cross-border trucking from all sides.......Just build DC's on the border....One side US....one side Canada or Mexico......A line of demarcation down the middle.....We stay on our side....they stay on their side.....The only thing that moves (and stays...) are the trailers or the freight from trailer to trailer....Real simple.....
We all know that the "point to point" NAFTA rule is broken........the above would alleviate that issue once and for all.
If the low-lives and the Bottom-feeders were weeded out.....the rates would increase and what would be left are the professionals....be they O/O's or company drivers....Markers83 Thanks this. -
The U.S. is always 5 to 8 years behind Europe. Whether it is equipment, HOS, lane restrictions, speed limits, foreign drivers, EOBRs, weight laws, weekend restrictions, etc., we copy Europe eventually.

Well in Houston Texas in the past 3 days there has been about 4 rigs getting in wrecks, So far all but 1 where on their side. One ran off the road in to a parking lot and wrecked some cars. They didn't say how long or how old the drivers are...

They had a bad one on Tuesday night just south of the Seven Oaks Rest area. I have not heard exactly what it was, but there were many ems, and police enroute.

Naw....if you take a snap shot of the rail today, you'll see why. 60 days to flip a car from Hou to Chicago?
Right now the rail is far too slow no matter how cheap he is plus he can't do any point to point work. You still have to get it off the car and get it to the mill, target etc. and he can't do that.
PLUS
Rail is subject to strikes and he has done this before. He nearly destroyed Ford Motor Co. in the late 90's. You think Ford has forgotten by now ?? I doubt it.
OP/ED : rail is going to take a big hit in 2013. They are widening the Panama Canal so it can accommodate 2 ships at once. What this means is the rails monopoly on container traffic off the Gulf to Long Beach will be no more as the ships will be able to efficiently call on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Also: The pollution police are on the rails butt. He's having to buy compliant engines and that's a cost he can't eat right now anyway. Rail is on the ropes just like us drivers.

5 to 10 years? The same place we are now maybe slightly worse because of all the new ######## to put up with, the older hands will start to give it up and walk away and there wil be more and more steering wheel holders out here who really don't have a clue. That's about it.
