The water pump does build up preasure in the system, It is pumping the coolant into the engine and the thermostat works as a restrictor. If they believe there is combustion do a bottle test. you need a good rad cap, and a bottle with a little soap in it, run the unit to tempature drain the complete air system you will need to make an adapter to hook shop air to the fan solinoid, disconnect the air compressor discharge line. Run unit at as high an rpm as you are comfortable with and let it go threw at least three fan cycles, then if you get air you have a compression problem. conect the air compressor and run it threw one more cycle if you get more air the compressor has a problem.

John... makes a lot of good sense as far as checking pressure. Truck is at Cat and I'm sort of afraid to drive it 60 miles home. Forgot to mention earlier, but now blowing a good amount of white smoke from both stacks pluss out of the blow-by hose. Think I'm most likely in for a big bill, huh?!

I appreciate the additional info. Bottle test makes good sense.

Head gasket failures are usually caused from low counter bores which means overhaul plus it sounds like you have a cracked head from running low on water or over heat. How many miles do you have on engine?

A water pump works exactly like a turbo. Just a thought!

Will a 3406e and c12 air compressor exchange
