Yes I have a few questions, I am interested in taking up trucking driving as my career. My problem is that I have a few things on my record. This Dec 30th will be 3 years since I had a ovi, but my lawyer had it dropped to a reckless opp. Which my understanding reckless opps drop off your record in 3 years. So my questions is there a possiblity that I could get hired if I Go through schooling and get my cdl's. I'm just trying to figure out if it is possible because I don't want to pay for schooling if I can't get A job. Thank You!

DUI and Reckless driving are major violations. It would be up to a individual company's hiring policies. Most go back 3 years on the application. Here's a quote from a random truck website...
I'd say you're safe to go to school but you have to take serious stand on your drinking if you haven't already. Because this is like a mouse trying to get a job in a cheese factory
The two don't mix.

some companies go back 5 years, so you wouldn't be out of the woods so to speak. now, if YOUR state drops off things at the 3 year point, you "might" be good to go, when the trucking company asks for your history for the past 5 years, well you personally can only provide 3, unless YOU or THEY pay for more years.

Well since i had it dropped to a reckless opp i shouldnt have a dui right? hmmm

Everyone makes mistakes and hopefully they learn from it. Some don't. But everyone deserves a second chance and not a third. Truck drivers don't take major violations lightly just like anyone else in the industry. It's their lives that were threatened. Your thread can be reworded... Hey, I'm the one that almost killed you. Can I get a job with you guys? I proved myself irresponsible in a car, but I can be responsible in an 80,000 lb truck.
That throws alot of ???? up. The bottom line is you can get hired. But your mind has to be right and you fixed the problem to do the best job possible. There's alot of responsibility driving. We don't want to read about a drunk truck driver killing a family. We all suffer then.
Let this thread be your first trucking lesson. You have to mentally tough in this industry. Alot of people bash you and you just deal with it.

I don't see where anyone "bashed" you. There was a moron who posted something some of us were responding to and the mods removed the post. That's why I edited my response. You have been given honest, open answers to your question. If you consider what Mr. Condocruiser said to be "bashing," you have a long way to go before you're ready to be out here. This is a tough job with tough people doing it.
Did you make a mistake? Absolutely. Have I and everyone else here made mistakes? Sure. Most of us did not make the same mistake you did, but we all have issues to overcome in life. Pointing this out to you is not "bashing." It is reality.
My suggestion is: run your own DVR check. There are two kinds of checks. There's the kind that goes back just three years and there's another one that goes back your entire history. The second one is what companies will be looking at. You can get a copy of it yourself from your DMV office. See for yourself what it says, then put some feelers out. Apply to a couple of companies, be completely honest about your record and see what they say. The worst they will tell you is something to the effect of, "We do not have a position open for you at this time." You might hear that a few times, but keep trying. You never get anywhere in this businesss by letting someone else make your decisions, ask your questions or guide your career for you.
Good luck to you.
