Not good advice for most. New drivers need an accredited school. The topic is how much did you pay for your training; not your CDL.

I paid nothing at the school of hard knocks. If I messed up the old man reached over and gave me a few hard knocs upside the head.
In my opinion it's the best way to learn and I got an education that is priceless and you could never buy.
However I do realive that you need to know a driver to learn that way and not everyone does.
there is a guy here in town who just got back from Iraq and went to driving school when he got back. I think he graduated last week but I'v been gone. His GI bill paid for the whole thing plus heavy equipment operation school.
I think this is a great option for our returning vets -
In Texas you can go to a place called The Worksoruce, which is hosts the web site, workintexas.com. They paid for my classes and it was around 2,600. This is the government money that you asked about. I am sure that other states have the same type of program.

Paid nothing, JB Hunt sent me to school in 1992.

I went to Roehl Transport's school RDTC(Roehl Driver Training Center) about 9 years ago. I think it was $2400, now it's $2500 or $2600. Its a three week course in Marshfield WI. Its also relatively inexpensive compared to some schools out there. I have students who have paid 6 or 7k and really didn't learn anything. Also if you stay long enough (about a year) its all reimbursed so it didn't cost me anything. They also offer lodging for a couple hundred bucks.
Another good school is NETTS (New England Truck Training School or something) in CT. I love when i get a student from there. Its a long course but the guys can really wheel. Not sure what it costs but most companies will reimburse you if you stay long enough. -
I gave Uncle Sam 6-1/2 yrs. of my life and he paid for my training at Prairie State College, and I didn't have a problem getting a job. However, I had problems with two of the companies that I worked for. Unless you know the person or have really good friends working there, never ever work for a small company (30 trucks or less)! They will screw you over in a heartbeat and are more ruthless than some of the CDL mills.

I will be paying nothing for my CDL. Roehl Driver Training Course will be footing the bill. As far as the third question, I'll let you know in about 3 or 4 months!
