Wireless or hands-free microphone?

I been looking for the same thing to no avail for months but good luck with your search if you find something let us know. I just keep my mic in my shifting hand and yell when i need to say something and cant get the mic close like I need it.

Both seems to have a PTT button that you can install anywhere(like the shifter)

 

The NASCAR guys have a push to talk switch on the steering wheel setup, maby check out racing radios?

Maybe it is buried in the rules somewhere, but you can get FMRS radios (handheld) with a VOX (voice activated) feature...and you are technically required to get a FCC ticket for some of them...just send a name, address and a few $$ to get it..no testing needed...but most folks skip this step...

 

FMRS is free and does NOT require a license. GMRS requires a license, and the last time I looked into it, it was around $80, and has a limited life, don't remeember how long. Most of the radios on the market are now a combination of FMRS and GMRS, but you would be legal if you stayed on the FMRS portion, which few folks actuallly do.

 

VOX is legal and used by Hams, so I kinda wonder if this is really true.

 

I've just reread the FCC's Part 95 and cannot find any references to vox operations being prohibited for CB. Any vox adapter would have to be outboarded though, i.e., plugged into the mic jack, to stay legal; otherwise it'd be an "internal modification".
There's a proposed revamping of the CB rules, along with GMRS that would allow (finally!) wireless mics for CBs. On the down side, however, it would also lower existing power limits and eliminate directinal antennas. WTF?!?) As of now, all control of a CB transmitter is required to be done either at the front panel, or by wireline controls from within the same vehicle or building.
A vox adapter isn't too complicated to build. There are some old units lying around on eekBay from time to time that were made to be kludged onto ham gear; these days most ham stuff has it already built-in.
I know of a couple of folks who have successfully adapted FRS handhelds with headsets for vox, and the "other" FRS radio adapted at the CB for carrying voice and push-to-talk functions.
