I'm wondering what different companies say about personal equipment in the truck. Do some companies say no CBs other than their company supplied radios? Do some companies say you must supply your own CB? Do any ban CBs? What about GPS units? I've heard some companies dictate which ones can be used. And finally what about the other stuff? Frigs, cookers, TVs....
What can you pass on about the companies where you've worked?
Thanks,

Ask the company you're working for. They're all different.

They want to install what? ...the inverter? or do you mean everything? Do they want to install the CB? I can understand a company not wanting a hack job done to their truck, but then do I trust my CB to their mechanics? Can you elaborate on this?
-
lots of companies require their shop to install the inverters and the cb power supply to make sure your not chopping up the factory wires.

Some of the larger companies will give limits on what types of radios you can use and ban amps/footwarmers. This was because idiots were using them in highly populated areas were the FCC likes to hang out and check for overly powered systems or converted 10 meter radios that were going out of the CB bands.
The main reason why companies want to install power sources etc in trucks is because of people hacking into the wiring causing a situation that might burn up a truck, yet their own tech/mech might just strip a few wires and tape the power cord to the wire anyway. Heaven forbid they get out a soldering iron and some heat shrink. -
Ah....The techs install just the radio power harness and make the connections to the trucks fuse block and chassis. (Ground) What about mounting brackets? Do they also specify where the radios are to be mounted? I know a lot of trucks are built with a factory CB mounting place close to the driver. I've seen some with a factory formed cradle and a nylon strap to secure the radio. I take it this is for slip seat drivers.

try not to worry to much till you see what truck you get. Every truck has a spot for a cb. Might be an after though strap on the dash *cough*volvopos*cough* Or have to screw into the bottem of the overhead leaving it loot like some getto rigged bs *couch*petercar*cough* or they might have a nice neat cubby hole for you like Freightliner and intercrashal do.

10-4. I cut my teeth and ground the gears in a Volvo while in CDL school. I wouldn't appreciate rope burns on my radio from those Volvo dashboard straps. Imagine what those things would do to a nice, purty Cobra 29 Black Chrome radio case. Yikes!
