You can use WD-40 instead of either. The truck will start fine with WD-40, but not run dry, have pre-combustion, or chance of either lock.

ok I will also check the filters to see if the seal is loose or not, looks like it not a serious problem after all.
-
Dont know how recommended or damaging it is but also soaking a rag in 2 stroke gas and laying it over the filter inlet can help start one up but I wouldnt carry it around for just that reason.

one time my ser 60 det would start fine after warmed up, but after sitting over night especially cold. it would crank, sputter, shake, & after a lil bit it would fire off. it waqs the back check at the back of the head. 5/8 flare on 1 side & I think maybe pipe fitting the other side. when I took it off, some one told me if I can blow thru both sides it was bad. if I could only blow thru one way it was good. air went thru both ways so I replaced. it fixed the problem. that was over 11 years ago. some say a bad fuel line on the suction side can cause this also. the battery cables & jumpers can cause a lot of problems, but I dont think they can be related to your specific problem.

yeah I think I isolated the problem to just the check valve, I checked the fuel filters and they were tight and not loose and I didn't see any signs of leaking so seals I believe are still good.. atleast it's something I can have replaced with not much trouble.. Thanks again for all your help, greatly appreciated.

If you have a Davco fuel filter, there is also a check valve where the line from the fuel tank enters the unit. This sometimes will get stuck open with trash from the tank. Open the black knob on top, and if the fuel level drops, that is your problem. I had a hard starting condition on my Detroit after it sat a while, and a small piece of aluminum rivet was stuck in the check valve. Just unscrewed it, cleaned it out, and good to go.
