Specialized hauling of office shacks skid shacks, etc and oilfield hauling along with lowbedding is not what I consider OTR but it sure does pay the bills a lot better than OTR. That said, if you can get into the specialized sector, why would you worry about OTR ??
-
What if he doesn't like it? or doesn't like the company? and I make more then $10/hr and I'm OTR......
I was just saying if one wants to make a career out of trucking, build a good strong resume, OTR is a requirment for ALLOT of trucking jobs.
Thats like saying I can get a job as a manager for XXX right out of high school so I'm not going to college.......well when he gets fired/quits/get laid off/ or forced into retirement he has no where to go for another management job because he doesn't have a degree to backup his experiance...

Have u thought about waste management , I know that it might not be a lot of local jobs but u really have to search around the web . I've only driven local for 3 yrs and that's all I want to do , and its been good to me . U should either check craigslist , indeed .com ,careerbuilder, simplyhired , monster etc . But jus type in local truck driving companies and ur area and see what comes up. U really have to research this stuff because work could get slow or u jus might not want to work that hard 4 ten dollars and hr .
-
Hey buck things get slow 4 certain trucking work like freight , but look into tanker work , its easy money and not hard work at all . Try jb hunt or dm bowman !! Some companies will let u keep ur truck in a certain location and still be local.

bigron- ive tried everything with looking online i dont know what todo. ive applied at waste management before ive got nothing back from them. i tried some food service places around the state.

Ok, you're overthinking things here. OTR is not the end all/be all of the trucking industry. As a matter of fact OTR has sunk more drivers careers than any other part of trucking. It's rough on drivers, their families, you name it.
Go take the good job you were offered. Money is really secondary at this point, what you need is certifiable experience and you will get good training there. You might even find you like this type of trucking. There are lots of folks making good livings at it.
If you decide at some point you decide to try heavy/ wide haul you will find that hauling a dry van around the country counts way less than already having experience with wide loads, etc. -
Not Necessarily. I deliver modular homes and I haven't been home for 1 month as of today. Also I don't set up anything, just go from a to b.
-
Well I think u should take the job until u find something else. But one thing that I use to do is when I was out whether it be working or jus out driving to the store, I would look at the trucks drive by me who had day cabs and put the name of company in my phone like a quick test message and then go home and pull them up online and call them jus to see what they might say. I did that a lot down here in baltiomre and even some companies that had sleepers I would still call them !! U never know they might jus have to spend one or two nights out a week and that's why they have sleepers especially the smaller sleeper trucks. I found out a lot about companies jus by doing that.

So my job interview went well. It seem like a good company to work for they are famliy owned. The only thing i dont understand is that i wont be driving every day maybe 3days a week the rest will be yardwork. They told me that if i was to get hired i wont start working till after the new year.
