Just checking in. I'm currently a newspaper carrier for a small/medium sized paper. I spend 6-8 hours on the road every night. I've been doing this for almost 2 years. I've been interested in CDL work for a long time, and after finally growing up this last year and deciding to get on with my life, i'm studying for my permit. I've been lurking around here for a while these past months, sucking up all the wonderful knowledge you old hands have been posting. I'm really impressed with the general community feeling here: everyone seems to want to help (other than the trolls) and there are some really nice folks here. I think i'll be proud to be a member of a community like this one!![]()
Good news, everyone!

Welcome, mindcrime. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are. So far I have received some awesome advice and done tons of research. I too look forward to becoming a REAL member of the trucking community. Best of luck to ya, sir. Let me know how your journey goes.

quick update: went to get my permit yesterday, found out you need to take a test for each endorsement you want a permit for, which the state website doesnt list (it doesnt list anything about permits, to be honest...). passed the general knowledge, went home and studies air brakes and combination, passed both of those today (100%! on each, woohoo). went to go get my permit card at the license bureau, was told i needed a DoT physical, which costs 70$. Really, really, really wish they had told me that ahead of time. Can't get my recruiter on the phone to answer my questions. waiting for laundry to finish so i can go to the doctors for the physical (clean undies, amirite?) and then off to get my permit card.

Welcome aboard mindcrime. Shop around for a DOT physical. The price varies greatly by how greedy the doctor is. You can find one for $40 if you look. Most of the cheapies are at walkin clinics.
