I always advise people to go to school on their own. If you go to Stevens, just work for the required amount of time and there is no cost to you.
Stevens will reimburse you for your school (up to $3,500 I think) at $25 per week.

yeppers, golden acorn, what is wrong with this place, good parking here too. Not really into casinos, but the only other place to park would have been the pilot on otay messa. No thanks.

Thanksgiving always snows hard that week in wyoming...that is why I asked to be home 3 weeks ago... checking the weather and the storm track, for my load from cally to wy, if I want to get home, I will have to run the southern route, I40 to I25 to cheyenne. Still be dycy along the front range of colorado. I15 to I80 will have high winds, snow, blowing snow...closed roads... chain law...now to get stevens to pay the extra miles so that the load arrives on time.
And yes I look that far ahead at the weather this time of year. Makes a difference.

Jakewalker, I went to a school of my choice, paid for it myself, and stevens is reimbursing me at $25 per week, for the entire $4500 I paid to the school. If you go to the stevens school, you become an indentured servant, until the agreed upon time is over, and the total cost of the school is forgiven.

jakewalker i went to school at stevens and tlea is right, but in my case i had no choice,i couldnt afford to pay for the school myself.now having said that it has worked out well for me.like emulsified and i assume tlea,i really enjoy working for stevens, its a good fit for me.my schooling is totally paid for at this point im free to work for anybody i choose,as of now i choose to work for stevens.not to brag, but with my driving record i could pretty much drive for the company of my choice.not to say stevens is the best fit for you,but if you want good training,in my opinion, stevens is the best choice.after a year with stevens,if you make it that far,you keep your nose clean, learn the business, there are not many companies out there, that would not love to have you drive for them.why, because they know our drivers are trained in the correct or should i say the professional way to operate a tractor trailer.good luck to you, never know,i might be one of your trainers.as for the cost of schooling it is expensive, but it was not bad.i paid 23 dollars a week for 30 months, stevens paid 45 a week for 30 months, and it was taken out of my weekly settlements,i never even noticed it to tell you the truth.as i say it was good for me.im now in my opinion one of the safest, best trained drivers on the road.and i take pride in that.

You might want also to give KLLM a look at. $400 week while in training, $150 month school payoff and balance paid off after a year in grad fleet and .32mi after training.
They run 2008 and up Freightliners and refeers also.
But where ever you go I think this is the good time to be with a seasoned trainer going into winter.( I kind of wished that trainers had at least 3 years of experience(winter driving) instead of one. I'd rather be with a trainer and get through part of the winter then to do a summer and have to go through a winter for the first time with out a trainer.

My 22 hours here at the golden acorn is just about up, so I can roll down the mountain and make my delivery.... and then it will be off into the winter weather, even flagstaff is going to get hit with this storm.

I'm not a fan of casinos. Golden Acorn is OK as they go, but the heavy smoke and the high prices at the restaurant are a turn off.
you're right about parking, tho. All of SoCal is bad. Just remember to get fuel at the Pilot, unless you plan to go to Ontario TA, because fueling stops are almost non existant. There are a couple CFN's but I don't know if they take our card.
Here in Ft Worth. Load delivers 6 miles away. Finally got permission to drop it, but ran out of hours, so tomorrow.
There'a a load of tomatos out there heading for WA with my name on it. Now if I could only dig up some hours.
TLea. If you like Greek food, I know a great place in N SD County. And parking withing walking distance.

We tested out here in Tampa today and I know one fellow will be going to Dallas next week and 2 more that were my cab buddies on the road training will be headed out there on the 5th. of Dec. I decided to go with KLLM for the reasons mentioned in the previous post.
