Southern California
After a fiery semi truck crash Thursday night on Highway 210 in Upland that killed two and froze eastbound traffic, commercial truckers defended their industry's training but said any improvement would be welcomed.
"A driver should be tested a couple of times a year," said Larry Kensley, a Riverside truck driver. "He should have to go through another driving test."
But even the most rigorous testing is not going to prevent mistakes. A trucker's lapse of attention triggered the Upland crash, California Highway Patrol investigators said.
The driver of a 2004 Volvo tractor "did not notice traffic to the front of her coming to a stop, which caused her to collide," the CHP said in a report regarding the wreck, near Mountain Avenue.

Seems to me, if you admit to negligent operation of a commercial vehicle, you should be arrested and charged with manslaughter for killing 2 people. But instead she gets to go on her merry way. Great laws for stupid people, no so good laws for regular people.
-
If they won't apply that to drunks, no way...
-
ok I AM WAY CONFUSED....if she wasnt paying attention and she slammed into traffic and killed people...why in the he** wasnt she arrested??????????????? why because she was a woman??? my god she still killed 2 people...man or woman shoulda been arrested....my sympathies for the family and friends of those who lost their loved ones....how sad...

"Nothing is going to stop accidents from happening, Kensley, the Riverside truck driver, said. But more vigilance by drivers would help.
"A car cannot stop like a truck can," Kensley said. "Everybody's got to know that.""
I just love that quote.
Does that mean everyone knows that a big rig can stop quicker than a car? -
I think they misquoted.

brake checks can catch even the most experienced drivers by surprise,.and cars switching lanes at the last second to avoid stopping, and taking up valuable braking space for a truck,.even four wheelerss get caught in this kind of phenomenom, it just way more dramatic when it happens to a truck,.and if you round a corner, and the traffic ahead has slowed to a crawl but just fast enough that there are no brake lights showing,,.with a 50-60mph speed difference, its easy to get caught in a bad situation,.people in the last vehicle should be taught to activate their 4 way flashers if the freeway traffic suddenly slows to a walking pace,. 18 wheelers do it all the time to help warn approaching traffic,.

Distracted Driving.............most likely.
If that is the case, I hope she does jail time !!!!! -
i didnt see anywhere where it said she was distracted...this has happened to me a few times, only difference is luckily i saw it time to get shut down before i made the news. more testing for drivers or jail time wont stop this. its life, sometimes bad things happen
-
Very bad indeed! But I like how these journalist operate with their mis-quotes and the view of one truckers is ALL truckers views. What about gender? What does that have to do with it? You hardly hear about woman causing wrecks because they are less aggressive in a big truck. A minivan might be a different story.
The CHP will probably reinact the accident and make a report. Then charges will be filed. They don't go on a confession alone.
